Line-up for today:
Boulez (again!) Sur Incises. Fortunately, I can stop whenever I want to.

Currently, Penderecki's Symphony No. 3. Haven't heard it in years. Love it.
[asin]B00004D3II[/asin]

Maybe I'll try some Scriabin next (I've been meaning to -- thanks to Bruce for reminding me!)...
Beethoven's Op. 133 -- A fugue so bad that even Beethoven himself called it "Grosse".

I'm probably too late, but Szell, of course  8)  (Even though I know you aren't thrilled with his Brahms 4.)

Which symphonies would you consider the highlights of this set, Sarge?  (You may take this here, if you think better.)

Good question, and one I can't answer right now. I think I've only listened to the cycle once before and have very little memory beyond the fact it's sonically a wonderland. The recent explosion in interest (in the Shosty thread) has me listening once again.

Thus it is written! I listened to Szell and it is good.

It must be years since I heard his Brahms 4, if I don't remember that particular disappointment. Maybe time to try again.

The logic here is interesting. You don't remember a disappointment, so seek to repeat it. If it turns out to be good instead, will you be disappointed?

I have now worked my way through this set....

I really enjoyed the set. I thought that the performances were taut and meaty without being too assertive and I particularly liked the brass in these performances.

Berlioz: Symphonie fantastique         London SO/Boulez

A revisit to one of my favorites to increase my Berlioz dosage! Boulez's performance definitely puts this recording at the top of the game. Warm, vivid and electrical soundscapes! Yay!
