You chose (and bought) wisely  . VL quartets are on a similar plane as Milhaud's as a fascinating complement to some of the more obvious choices that don't really need further advocacy. They deserve a place on anyone's 10 best list of 20th Century SQ.

The Perrotta disc was released last month but evaded detection.  It's full price, but the other items are all under ten Euros at Amazon Italy.  My last order from there took over a month to arrive.  I'm hoping this one doesn't take as long.  Ashkar, Tchakerian, Chiesa, and Prosseda's fellow musicians are all new to my collection.

One of my very favourite American composers. Much maligned and sniffed at in some quarters. True, his output is variable. At his best he has a unique, direct voice that speaks to the heart.
