I do love this

An experiment of sorts:. I have yet to hear anything by either Dean or Francesconi.

Hi king ubu,

Nice looking orders there!

How are you accessing the amazon links?  I cannot find the ASIN's to do this (and see that others are also having this issue).  Your links work fine too.

Using amazon UK ASIN's  ;) , purchased today ~

I still think the tone poem Taormina on one of those discs is the worst-composed piece of music I've ever heard professionally recorded.

I beg to differ :)

I purchased this bunch not exactly today, but more like over a week ago - shortly before a brief vacation in Souththern France.

All comd from  - via my little local shop with cut outs  the downsizing of  a collection of a professional Classical musician and record producer.

Everything in prefect condition and dusty cases looked after a wipe of a alcohol dipped tissue as new. I hope there will be more...  8)

Oh, I definitely recommend that.  :)
Love the ensemble -  perhaps not so polished, but very authentic and engaging.

Found this, supposed to be one of the recordings that made Jansons famous.

I see the Penuin Guide Rosette in the picture that made me try it so many moons ago.

Wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.... ::)

Oh no !
is the rosette like the kiss of death? There is a running joke that the rosette means 1, maybe 2 people likes it.

Well, as a composer, I would be embarrassed to have it published under my name.  It's repetitive, and worse, the repeated material isn't that good the first time.  The form is slipshod and has neither interest nor dynamism.

Pretty good. There certainly are better cycles. HvK springs to mind.

Sounds like a cross between Nielsen's Saga Drom and various Sibelius tone poems, minus the charm of course.

I'll back up that rec. This is a great disc, and should be followed by this recording of the 6th if you find yourself becoming a fan.

Thanks Greg!

I recall now that you have promoted this recording of the 4th & 5th in the past.

Thanks as well for the recommendation of the 6th, on ECM.  I actually have this recording, but am not too keen on it (it's in my discard pile, ready to go to Amoeba Records - unless you'd like it, that is; lmk).  The  Roman Kofman recording of the Sixth, was my introduction to Silvestrov, hearing it on the radio a few years ago.  I plan to purchase that one in due time. I'll see how I get on with the BIS 4th & 5th.

At times it is quite good but never surpassing any of the sets I know.
Soon start with the Neeme Jarvi set on BIS. I have high hopes.

Well yes that's your opinion. I am milder in my judgement.
You think yourself a better composer than Boehe?
To judge music as being repetitive slipshod, no interest, or dynamism,  you put on large shoes my friend.
I did not hear anything you composed and frankly I would not want to, but I sincerely doubt that you could produce anything that comes near Boehe.
It is easy to condemn music.

Ernst Boehe is a completely unknown composer to me and I wouldn't have cared less about his music, but since you call Taormina the worst-composed music ever recorded, I had to check it out on Spotify...  :P
