Both sets are on my to order list. Are there GMG ers that know the quality of these recordings? I would like to invite comments.

(Pachelbel CPO set) I have heard vol. 1 once more than half a year ago and I own vol. 2, but have not listened to it yet. What I remember is OK organs and recording but a little dutiful and workmanlike interpretation. Maybe the problem, as Mandryka has suggested elsewhere, when the talk was about Joseph Payne's Pachelbel integral, that part of Pachelbel's organ music isn't that inspiring.

But is it worth acquiring?
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

It is certainly not mind blowing, and I feel somewhat ambivalent about it. I dare not say if you will find it partly worthwhile. Let me re-listen to some of it in the week to come.

That would be kind. Pachelbel's organ music is not a common thing to be released.

the phone rings and somebody says,
"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

That Arnold set is indispensable, not necessarily for the symphonies (Daniel and Hickox/Gumba are just as good) but for all the rest. Arnold is one of these composers who is so much more than just another 1-9 composer  :)

Indeed. Being an ardent fan of Martinů, I had no choice. ;)

I was wondering what you thought of it, I couldn't remember...

But thanks for that - I just put the organ disc on!  :)

A great Vivaldi recording, probably better than any of the Naive recordings, as good as they are.  The DVD is a nice extra.
