Could not resist this new recording of C.P.E. Bach by Alexei Lubimov on the Tangent piano

His Haydn Seven last word of Christ was spectacular on this instrument.

Very interested in and curious about this new CPE Bach.  It's in my amazon cart!

Thanks! Nashville has some nice vinyl shops.

I know of Grimey's, Phonolux and The Great Escape.  Was it one of those or some place new?

I haven't been to those three! I got these at McKays on Old Hickory off of 40. And then there's Luna Records in Franklin, but it doesn't have a great classical selection. I will definitely have to check those out. Are they near where you are in Nashville?

I haven't been in years but Phonoluxe had a decent classical selection.  It's on Nolensville near where 40 crosses, 2609 Nolensville Pike.  The Great Escape has several locations, one by me on Charlotte, 5400 Charlotte Ave.  Grimey's has a great selection of old rock and related stuff, 1604 8th Ave. South, not sure how much classical.

I like the Smithsonian Players directed by Kenneth Slowik.  I would like to hear these works with gut-strung instruments.  Thanks.

To follow up on this:

Well, I am only mildly familiar with the Elgar and Strauss pieces, so I couldn't comment meaningfully on interpretation or accuracy. I didn't hear any glaring flubs or audio problems. Regardless of historical authenticity, I do like the Smithsonians' sound here. I find this CD worth having on that basis.

The last 20 tracks of the CD, labelled "musical examples," range from 2 chords to several bars each, mostly played on piano, with one a clip from Beethoven 3. There is no narration. Most are also notated in the booklet. This probably would have been more interesting if I had noticed that Slowik's essay on Metamorphosen references them. It would be difficult to seek back and forth between the example tracks and the corresponding parts of the main recording, so for anyone who reads music, the booklet probably has more value than the example tracks. OTOH for someone who has already studied Metamorphosen, this probably doesn't add much value.

Some things I ordered today. Sorry Premont that I could not wait for your reassessment of the Pachelbel organ works.

Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

"When Time hath gnawed our bones to dust, yet friendship's echo shall not rust"
