That leaves Sarge and me!

I'm pretty happy with Berman for the sonatas and Sandor the rest (with a few stray sonatas). Raekallio that special?

I was going to say that you stand alone Brian... but I guess not. :)

I also purchased a subscription of mml for use at work (but I admit it sounds fine out of my speakers at home).  I'm tired of the ripping cds game.  I would rather use streaming and digital downloads for my portable listening and my cds for home and just stop bothering with ripping my collection.

Not sure why I needed another new purchase less than a day after my last one, but hey, it was small.

Do you like the Second Viennese School, Ken? If no, then you'll probably not enjoy Skalkottas. Just sayin'.

Generally not but I heard one of these on youtube.
As you know I like Martin and a few others who have used 12 tone ideas without becoming slavish.

I think you may be right here about Skalkottas. He wasn't a 'strict serialists' and he, like Schoenberg, did composer many tonal works. I haven't heard that much by Skalkottas yet, but I did sample some of his music on YouTube before I plunged into this Greek abyss and from what I could tell I think Frank Martin is a pretty close comparison.

A couple more for the sub-collections...

Thanks to Moonfish who mentioned the sale on MDT for the boxsets... Amazon did indeed follow suit as well (Via MP at £23.79 compared to the usual £35 for this one)

Anytime! I like how we are the eyes and ears for each other in terms of great deals!  :) Reading these threads are dangerous for me as well. I need to devote even more time towards listening at this pace. There are some great deals at the moment (at least it seems that way every time I log on)!

Q listening to Mady Mesplé inspired me to get the same set after some voice sampling. Thanks Q!

I bought a new Dvorak Symphony Cycle this week - I am very pleased with it. I was a bit disappointed with some of Jarvis readings. So far i listened to 5, 6 and the New World - all are pretty excellent:

I have part of that set Conor, they are great recordings.

I just received the last parcel from JPC DE with 18 cd's, telling me that the others will follow free of charge, but Hummmm they canceled them, they canceled me. ???

I find that Raekallio box surpassing excellent.  (And I also have the Sándor, which is of course a classic.)

But then, you know, I'm one who thinks highly of the Mennin Eighth ;)

The forum pressure was just too much. I caved (ordered it from Amazon DE). You're on your own, dude  ;)  I grabbed Sandor's Vol.2 also.

Meh. I need some recording of the Prokofiev sonatas. It's a question of whose. And yes, I intend it to be just one pianist's set.

EDIT: Actually, I'm conscious I need way more Prokofiev in general. I've heard quite a few genres at various points, but it seems the only thing I have on CD is Romeo and Juliet. For me it's one of the more glaring gaps in my collection.
Nobody has to apologise for using their brain.
