There is no wrong answer on this one, unlike the Beatles and Stones thing.

I only see 4 bands, none of which I'd say is my favorite new wave artist.

Read between the lines and pick one.  >:(

Blondie by far.

My favorite Blondie track must be about buried in obscurity these days:  "Fade Away and Radiate," with guest gee-tarist Robt Fripp.

Out of these four the Talking Heads are the only ones I can listen to consistently.

Buried in obscurity? HELL NO!

By the way, who's the favorite?

Karl Henning

Tough call between "King's Lead Hat" and Devo . . . but I've got to go with « Les Têtes Qui Parlent »

Erasure

Oh, I don't consider that "new wave". I consider that synth pop. :D These bands started in the '70s.

Yeah that is a good song.

Well they're classified as New Wave, but I'll list a few more that I'd list ahead of the four bands in this poll:

Animotion
Depeche Mode
A Flock of Seagulls
Frankie Goes to Hollywood
The Human League
INXS
Grace Jones
Joy Division
Limahl
Q Lazzarus
The Police
Spandau Ballet
Tears for Fears
Toto Coelo <_<
Yazoo

By me (not that I require a redesign of the poll, or anything) the most serious omissions are:

The B-52s
The Eurythmics (not that they're my bag at all)
The Flying Lizards
Joe Jackson (though he went elsewhere)
The Police (though they went elsewhere)
The Psychedelic Furs

Yeah, a lot of stuff is called new wave that is just bad '80s pop music. If it didn't start in the '70s, I don't count it. A lot of those you listed I consider '80s synth pop. The Police is a good pick for new wave though.

You should have then specified, in the beginning, your extremely narrow definition of what you consider New Wave.

Some good bands there but not contenders with the four I listed. Well, maybe the Police.
