Just finishing the fifth season of Downton Abbey. Watched all the previous four season this spring. Excellent story, but with a slight presence of "soapiness" as the seasons progressed. Still, great acting and sets. I am definitely a sucker for dramas from BBC (Masterpiece Theatre type).  :)

Apparently a second feature film is in the pipeline.
"Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm" (Churchill).

'The test of a work of art is, in the end, our affection for it, not our ability to explain why it is good' (Stanley Kubrick).

I'm just finishing up the final season, 6, of Schitt's Creek, the Canadian comedy TV series.  I enjoyed it, (being a retired septuagenarian with time on hands), but an IMDB rating of '8.5' is 'way too high, IMHO:  it gets a '7' from me.

I suspect a lot a praise for the series stems for its matter-of-fact, light-hearted treatment of a gay relationship.  OTOH, the relationship between highly affected, poor-little-formerly-rich kid, David, (Dan Levy), and the conventional, newly "out" Patrick seem implausible on the face of it.

Catherine O'Hara, (of Home Alone and Beetlejuice fame, etc.), has won a number of awards for her performance in this series.  Her performance is appropriate in-context, IMHO, but ultimately it is hammy and affected.

Just finished season 1, this is the more historically accurate European production, not the Showtime soap opera

Breaking Bad is the best thing I have seen in years. Late to the party but that is not a bad thing as we can binge watch - last night three episodes worth. The production and acting is so impressive, far superior to anything on British TV. Based around Walter who has terminal cancer the series is LOL funny with characters comparable to modern day Dickens. But it is the acting that stands out, the facial expression of Walter's wife (a brilliant actress) when he came down to prepare breakfast after shaving all his hair off had me in stiches.
You must have a very good opinion of yourself to write a symphony - John Ireland.

I opened the door people rushed through and I was left holding the knob - Bo Diddley.

What a great series indeed, and after you finish it, you'll have the superb prequel to see.

Yes, Better Call Saul is not to be missed. I like it quite a bit more than Breaking Bad (and I definitely enjoyed Breaking Bad.)

Look forward to it. My son tells me - and I think I'm getting close - when the police chief brother-in-law realises the drug dealer he is obsessed in capturing is in fact Walter counts as one of the best moments on TV he has seen.

It's definitely a 'holy crap' moment.

Oh yes, that conversation was epic. My vote for best moment is fairly conventional, the Carousel pitch from Mad Men.

Good luck at your next meeting.

Some of those episodes are brilliant, like The Twilight Zone!

Recently we revisited comedian Bob Newhart's second series from the 1980's, Newhart, which had him running an inn and hosting a local T.V. show where he interviewed authors pushing their books.

This sequence is hysterical: give it a chance to establish the set-up, and then the punchlines just keep on coming!   ;D

We had started watching the drama Viewpoint on ITV but, after broadcasting 4 of 5 episodes the finale has been cancelled due to sexual harassment allegations against one of the stars. Just as well we'd been recording it so have only wasted the one hour. :(

Steve,
Even if not aired live, that last episode will be available on the ITV Hub to "catch up".

Thanks Olivier, I don't think we'll bother as we'd have to rush through 3 episodes in the hope of catching the "limited time" offer. Next time we'll make sure we have a complete series safely recorded before starting to watch.

No worries :)

Talking of ITV Hub, we've finished the second season of The Bay a few days ago. That was quite a let down compared to the first season.

Now looking forward to the finale (season or full stop ? who knows...) of Line of Duty on Sunday night on the Beeb.

I have mentioned it before:  One of my favourite police dramas of all time (particularly seasons 2 and 3 as a combination).  I have not seen the season six yet (not yet available on Canadian Netflix).

Hope you'll get it soon, Ray.

It got much better again. We are supposed to finally (!) get some sort of answers in Sunday's episode  ???
