I knew you would like it.
Goodmorning!

I ordered the John Bull CD.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

"When Time hath gnawed our bones to dust, yet friendship's echo shall not rust"

Jean-François Dichamp plays Granados' Goyescas, interspersed with sonatas by Scarlatti and Soler:

Despite the slightly pretentious subtitle of the CD (TBH, although intimately related to the opera of the same title, the Goyescas suite has IMO nothing particularly operatic to it), this is a nicely programmed and beautifully played recital.

Listening to a concert (podcast) recording.

Currently Haydn's Seven Last Words of Our Saviour on the Cross. String quartet version.

After that it's going to be (I think) my first exposure to the music of Sofia Gubaidulina, with a work called Seven Words. A concerto for cello, bayan (a type of Russian accordion) and strings.
Nobody has to apologise for using their brain.

Good morning all,

It is good to see that you find your way to Bruckner  so  enthusiastically.  :)

You may recall that it was you who helped kickstart that enthusiasm for me around this time last year. :) For that I'm grateful! It has been very rewarding exploring his music, especially over the past couple of months. It took a while to fully click for me.

... music is not only an 'entertainment', nor a mere luxury, but a necessity of the spiritual if not of the physical life, an opening of those magic casements through which we can catch a glimpse of that country where ultimate reality will be found.    RVW, 1948

Thoughts? I tried some of these when I started on Mozart's earliest works, but then went for other versions. This might just have been that I didn't warm to the sound of the Cembalo.
