:o  :o  :o  Awesome music.

Erkki Salmenhaara.

Suomi Finland
La Fille en mini-jupe.
Adagietto.
Le bateau ivre.

Tampere PO, Eri Klas.

The work of a genius, so far this is my favourite disc of Salmenhaara. The Adagietto is to die for. If I had to put a CD on top that I bought in 2020 it would be this one.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

"When Time hath gnawed our bones to dust, yet friendship's echo shall not rust"

Light music or more than that? Including the once famous London Suite:

"Light Music" as a term is unfortunate as it leads as much to dismissal and disparagement as much as appreciation.  Eric Coates was a genius at what he chose to do.  Remember he was considered one of the best violists of his generation and led the Queen's Hall viola section for Henry Wood.  He had a superb melodic gift and individual sense of orchestration.

Yes, yes and yes, a hundredth times yes!

I find the notion that only "serious, thoughtful and heavy" music is worth considering as true music to be the most pernicious legacy of Romanticism, especially Austro-German Romanticism. I'm an unabashed romantic yet I disown much, if not most, of the Romantic ideological drivel.

Traverso what exactly is in that box set?  Koopman has recorded far, far more than 10 cds of baroque era music.

SymphonicAddict, if you see this what was that Penderecki work you recommended awhile back?  I'm blasting through a ton of listening this afternoon and wanted to listen to that piece.

I was driving very much earlier today and I overheard a keyboard concerto which I thought it was by CPE Bach. Then the speaker lady announced it was "The Keyboard Concerto Catalogued as Number 1053 by Joseph Haydn" (sic!)

At which point I ejaculated an expletive --- and it's not for the first time that the speakers of the Romanian classical radio station make such blunders --- one of them, a male one that time. thrice announced "Turandot by Verdi", and when the tenor who had been invited corrected him he (the speaker) asked innocently: "Is it really by Puccini?" Needless to say, he's still a speaker for the Romanian Classical Music station.

By whom?

I used the wrong word. Underrated fits better. I've seen that reaction on other people from another forum, and even Hurwitz thinks so as well.
The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied.

It's the Partita for harpsichord, electric guitar, bass guitar, harp, double bass and orchestra. A fascinating work.

Indeed far more, only the second book Wohltemperierte klavier.there is also another box on Archiv 9 CD

That is an interesting selection, especially the Frescobaldi.  I've listened to Koopman for the cantatas and organ works, but didn't know that he also performed some of the solo keyboard works of Bach.

Simpson symphonies (on cd!)

Tchaikovsky 2 and 3 Jurowski (on cd!)

A new recording of Gorecki's third symphony, and an incredible piece that I had not heard before (Vehadi).  Lisa Gerrard delivers an exceptional performance, best singing I've heard in the third.  I will order this when it is released on cd.

Bliss Color Symphony, first listen for me

Penderecki Partita for Harpsichord and Orchestra, first listen for me this is on the challenging perhaps earlier era of Penderecki

Great selection of works. I enjoy them all, not necessarily the same recordings, though, it's good to see mentions of Simpson, Górecki and Bliss, besides Tchaikovsky and Penderecki.

The Penderecki and Rihm are fine enough, brief, modern takes on the Stabat Mater, but it is the Poulenc and Szymanowski that really exceeded my expectations.  Both come across as more warmly lyrical than in the few other versions I've heard.  If Viotti's Szymanowski lacks the ultimate sonic impact of Rattle's, or more serious devotional wallop of Wit's, it sounds more immediate but not in your face, more theatrical, more beautiful.  The choral singing captivates.  The Poulenc sounds hardly less beautiful here.  Softened a bit when compared to Dutoit, it takes on an ethereal quality at times.  This is another Amazon closeout disc I picked up on a whim, and it reminded me why I continue to do that.
