Most recently watched films, and enjoyed all of them immensely.

Blade Runner 2049 (2017) Directed by Dennis Villeneuve

Before Midnight (2013) Directed by Richard Linklater

Cool.  My friend Charles saw the new Blade Runner and reports that he enjoyed it much more than he expected to.

I feel the same, not that I was expecting anything poor, but I was captivated throughout the film. It also did help that longtime great cinematographer Roger Deakins shot the visuals, and Hans Zimmer/Benjamin Wallfisch's score was close in line with Vangelis' score of the original 1982 film.

Criterion is running their 50% off promo. I was going to pre-order these two from Amazon last week and forgot, which I'm glad I did, saved another $10 by waiting for this.

A delightful production  8)

Danielle Darrieux passed away at 100.  A little memory song

She did over 100 films with a dozen landmark movies.  I really liked her in L'affaire Ciceron (Mankiewicz).

R.I.P. Just recently I saw the 1964 film Patate, directed by Robert Thomas, with Jean Marais, Pierre Dux, and Mme. Darrieux playing (delightfully) the part of the latter's charming and infinitely patient wife. A young Sylvie Vartan portrayed the couple's daughter in the film.

Even in grand old age she was adorable. Her performance in Pièce montée is nothing short of incredible. She was 92. In Les demoiselles de Rochefort she was the only character to sing with her own voice (she took to singing when a teenager and had a naturally well-tuned voice).

Her most memorable film was Madame de... by Max Ophüls. She was not acting. She was the character..

Die Hard....

What can one say other than a solid, evergreen classic of its genre.

needs to be mentioned as a caution
DESCENDANT OF THE SUN     Shaw Brothers 1983
"Celebrated director Chu Yuan helms Descendant Of The Sun, a Superman meets Hercules ala old style martial art film. Derek Yee, is a magic solar baby sent Earthbound by a benevolent god, raised by an old carpenter, has martial art superpowers and "green kryptonite" loses them during solar eclipses. That's when the evil baby counterpart shows up. Demon-paced martial arts action by Jackie Chan's kung-fu classmates Yuan Pin and Yuen Hua compliments Toho Studio style special optical effect"      Reminded me of the Cannon Films Hercules movie with Lou Ferrigno, that kind of awful.

Red Rock West....

A fairly typical thriller film but entertaining enough to carry one through it with good performances all round.

Congratulations!

Keep an eye out for Howard Jarvis...

You may find the sequel to not be in the same class as the original, but it is still watchable.

Enjoy,

The voice-activated door and W.S. cameo redeem everything, I think.

Spirits of the Dead
1968 ‧ Mystery/Horror ‧ 2h 1m

In one chapter of this three-in-one feature inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's tales, a countess (Jane Fonda), shunned by a horseman (Peter Fonda), kills the man and his animals yet pays dearly for her deadly act. Another focuses on a religious man (Alain Delon) who seeks absolution for a murder only to find that his violent impulses come rushing back. The third is about a boozing actor (Terence Stamp) who accepts a car as compensation for a role, but is ultimately defeated by addiction.

I quite agree. That was the first inkling l had that perhaps Mr. Shatner didn't take himself all that seriously. Another such telling cameo was in Police Squad!
