Jason Bourne (2016) w/ Matt Damon, TL Jones, et al - streamed last night from Amazon - now, I've never been a fan of these films, although all are on my 'watched list' going back to the Bourne Identity (2002) - just found the first four confusing (probably did not pay enough attention nor did I read the books, both which will have helped) - this time I followed the Wiki article on the film HERE, which helped me greatly - :)

Ratings: 6.7/10, IMDB; 56% Rotten Tomatoes; 4.2/5* on Amazon - quick paced, too much action/killing, too many airports (was this a travelogue?), and a monotonously long SWAT/car chase at the end - for me, film was OK and I watched to the end w/ the help of Wiki - rating, 3/5* - don't plan to re-watch any of these movies; however, he again disappears at the end alive - SO, a future release?  Recommended w/ reservation for fans of this series.  Dave :)

Dave, you didn't like the commentary?  I thought it all that could be desired (except that Donat was short-changed, but that prob. reflects the reality of his ever-diminishing rep.)

Hello GS - well, I did not listen to the commentary, but will do - there are only 3 items listed as 'extras', and two are short videos likely of little interest - the commentary seems to be the main attraction.  Dave :)

Watched Robocop with the commentary by director Paul Verhoeven, one of the writers, and ... someone else  8)

Clarification:  Director Paul Verhoeven, writer Ed Neumeier, & executive producer Jon Davison.

Thread Duty:  Another thing I watched last night was the 6-minute storyboard featurette with commentary by Phil Tippett, on the ED-209 stop-motion animation.

For the first time: Broadway Dannie Rose. Very good, indeed.

All the cameos (Milton Berle, Joe Franklin, Howard Cosell) make for extra smiles in this one.  The dire comedy of errors is wonderful.  All I should say for fear of being a spoiler.

Hi Karl - one of my favorite Woody movies - in fact, just checked my database and although I've seen most of Allen's films over the decades, I own just the 5 listed below on commercial DVD/BD (have several more burned on DVD-R) - in a recent ranking of 47 Woody productions in Telegraph HERE (put in their rankings on my list), I own only ones in their TOP 10 - I must have good taste? ;)  Dave

QuoteAnnie Hall (1977) - 3/47
Broadway Danny Rose (1984) - 9/47
Hannah and Her Sisters (1986) - 1/47
Manhattan (1979) - 6/47
Zelig (1983) - 8/47

Dave, you're a star!  ;)

We do not intersect much there, somehow!  My own assortment:

[What's New, Pussycat? (1965) — writer & actor]
[Casino Royale (1967) — actor]
Love & Death (1975)
Manhattan (1979)
Stardust Memories (1980) [coming in]
A Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy (1982) [coming in]
Crimes & Misdemeanors (1989)
Shadows & Fog (1991)

But all of your five have excellent merit.

Well, we have one in common - I need to re-visit some of the ones in your list - will check the TCM channel to see what may be coming up in their schedule - Dave :)

P.S. also on DVD-R, just 3 other Woody films: Play it Again Sam, Radio Days, & Sleeper

Love And Friendship

Lots of fun and easily recommended. I don't know how close it sticks to the early Austen story, but it was missing the moment of self-critical clarity that comes to the characters of her mature works, though that needn't be a reason to deduct marks here. Kate Beckinsale particularly impressive in a role that in lesser hands would have been played for broad comedy or with knowing winks at the audience or even as a clear villain. She plays self justifications and self-delusions straight and plays them perfectly.

Blackhat
2015 ‧ Drama film/Thriller ‧ 2h 15m

After a Hong Kong nuclear plant and the Mercantile Trade Exchange in Chicago are hacked by unknown perpetrators, a federal agent (Viola Davis) proposes that the FBI work with China to find the cyber-criminals. The leader of the Chinese team, Chen Dawai, insists that convicted hacker Nick Hathaway (Chris Hemsworth) be released from prison to help with the investigation. As Nick and his comrades chase their quarry, it becomes evident that the hackers have a sinister motive for their actions.

I thought it was fun, though it kinda lost the thread about 2/3 of the way through.

Really enjoying the honest difference in opinion between Siskel & Ebert on the Lethal Weapon movies:

Miss those guys -  :(   Two years ago, I put in an order for a half dozen BD items included the LW Collection below which was $25 for the 4 films - all items came to about $80 which was covered by an Amazon gift card - now I had the first two films on DVD, which are my favorite, BUT I do enjoy looking at Rene Russo, so like the 3rd film - now, I cannot remember at the moment much about the last one?  Dave :)

I liked it. It's not particularly revelatory, won't win any oscars but it's ok. Couple things I really liked are that there are no talking heads and there's a lot of archive footage from their early days, and since it covers their rise, first two albums basically, the music is consistently good. If they make another one, tracking their fall out, I'd watch it.

It gets so caught in its meta-ness that the whole film gets lost in the process. Nicole Kidman is lovely though.

Ken B

No Way To Treat A Lady (1967)

Rod Steiger and George Segal with Lee Remick.

A very weird black comedy thriller about serial stranglers and Jewish mothers. Has a pretty good reputation.

Hard to know what to make of this. Something of a misfire but mostly an enjoyable one. Alas they go for serious at the end. The editor of that sequence should be tarred and feathered.

Marred by some really inept camera work, really inept, awful costumes and makeup for Lee Remick (they succeed in making Her unappealing in a few shots). 5/10

Likewise, Dave, I must have found the four-movie pack for an absurdly low price, and thought, What the heck.

I cannot yet help with the fourth movie, which I only started watching Tuesday.  Starts out strikingly enough, with a napalm terrorist firebombing a street, and a Chinese freighter practically running down Murtaugh's boat.
