Ewan McGregor must have studied the speech pattern of Alec Guinness, for you can sense similarities, without mere aping.

I've seen an interview where he said that, and he had to do it again for the new show.  He just watched a ton of Alec Guinness until he had it down.

Haunting At The Rectory:

This film operates between two different but intertwining storylines. It has a supernatural element that involves an old story and a carnal element which involves a parson, his wife and the gardener. It is worth a watch.

Ad Astra:

This is an interesting space travel/science fiction film. If you like this genre I would recommend it if you have not seen it. I found that the twists here and there keep the storyline interesting. Pitt played an interesting and complicated character well, I thought.

This is on my list of things to watch. I mean, it might take me several years to get around to it, but it's on the Apple wishlist to remind me.

Hopefully it will be worth the protracted wait for a viewing.

Don't bother. It is a movie about an astronaut with father-issues some random silly action scenes thrown in to keep the audience awake.  :-\
Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

I really liked it.  I do agree with Poju that the action scenes are contrived.  But if you can suspend your disbelief...

Kieślowski: Dekalog No. 8

A younger woman comes from America to visit an older woman, a professor, on an exchange programme. It soon becomes apparent that these two women have a shared experience in the past. The purpose of the film is the teasing out of the issue in the past and the reconciliation that may be achieved between the two parties.

Sicario: Day of the Soldado

This is a hard hitting crime thriller. It has a good storyline and good action with relevant violent scenes.
As Mexican drug cartel related films go this one had substance and was a good watch.

I don't think I mentioned here watching Another Round (or in Danish, 'Druk' which means 'binge drinking').

It won the Academy Award for best foreign film. Undoubtedly it's a good film, and Mads Mikkelsen in the lead role is excellent. It treads a very carefully judged line between comic and tragic as it explores drinking culture and the effects of alcohol.

Definitely worth watching. I can't help wondering, though, whether the awards were at least partly influenced by the circumstances in which the film was made, with the director's daughter (who was going to be in the film) killed in a car crash right at the start of production (the crash had nothing to do with the production itself).

I received the Madeleine L'Engle book back when I was in school. Love the book. Not sure I want to see a film which was made of it.

One of the first books I read.  For some reason the movie seemed to receive a tremendous amount of hate when it came out.  It might have been a bad adaptation.  That wouldn't be the first time screenwriters arrogantly thought they could do better than the source material (I'm looking at you Wheel of Time!)

Neither would it be my first choice; yet it is increasingly difficult to find positive messages for young girls without crassness or stupidity in movies. These, at least, were shorn of those qualities and ended up being a nice discussion point about self actualization.

I also like the book very much.

Amanda:

A young man has a good relationship with his older sister and her daughter. The young man also meets and falls in love with a young woman. Then tragedy strikes and his life and relationships are turned upside down. The film also traces how he faces and deals with his altered life. It was a worthwhile watch.

Two near-future sci-fi yarns this weekend:

Reminiscence (2021)
Hugh Jackman, Thandiwe Newton

Hugh Jackman narrates noir style while borrowing past memories to investigate around a half-submerged Miami Beach.

Infinite (2021)
Mark Wahlberg, Chiwetel Ejiofor

Sci-fi action revolves around reincarnation, with no attempt at philosophical introspection.
