This excellent, darkly funny movie was directed by Steve Buscemi. Recommended.

Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps (2010) w/ Michael Douglas & Shia LaBeouf - we streamed this film from Amazon last night - was on my Netflix list - reviews were average; 3* rating on Amazon (pretty poor for those raters); 54% 'fresh' on Rotten Tomatoes (not too good for that site); and just over 3* on Netflix - Susan walked out early but I watched to the end!  The beginning of this film is just too confusing - fast action scenes flipping back & forth w/ unintelligible dialog and confusing story line - film 'calm downs' in the second half and was more enjoyable for me

But still an 'average' rating for me (or slightly less) - if you're a Michael Douglas fan and liked the first 'Wall Street' then probably an obligatory watch, but don't expect much IMO - Dave  :D

Just finished the first season of the Tudors, a show that Jasmine got me into. Mostly historical fiction, but loads of fun!

Of interest to GMG: Thomas Tallis as a bisexual Elisabethan rock star with groupies.  I got pretty tired of the show after the first season, though.

A lot of it is out there. But hey, it's t.v. I never expect much, that's how I get pleasently surprised.

We've been watching the three sitcoms created by Graham Linehan: Black Books, Father Ted, and The IT Crowd.

All are hysterically funny in the Monty Python tradition.

Quite enjoyable - bought for my girlfriend who's an avid Bowie fan and she enjoyed the obvious parallels.
Not sure what the entire point of the film was though and would like to watch again without the usual Christmas imbibing!

Never really liked Father Ted, but love the IT crowd and Black Books. Hours of fun there!

Neurotic, OCD-addled, repressed lesbian ballerina with frightful stage mother goes off the deep end in pursuit of the role of a lifetime.

There is some superb imagery, some very good acting from Natalie Portman and a scary and sad looking Barbara Hershey (too many plastic surgeries), and some nice acting from the always seemingly smug Vincent Cassel (you'd be permanently smug, too, if you were married to Monica Bellucci).  The problem with the movie is that it is too over the top.  Darren Aronofsky can certainly put some striking images and ideas on screen, but this movie seems a bit too melodramatic and at times silly.  I enjoyed it, I just hoped for more.  It doesn't hold a candle to The Fountain in Aronofsky's output.  (I'm sure many would disagree.)

Man I hope this does not get nominated and forces my hand to see it.....then again, this description has "Academy" all over it.
There will never be another era like the Golden Age of Hollywood.  We didn't know how to blow up buildings then so we had no choice but to tell great stories with great characters.-Ben Mankiewicz

Yeah, he was great in that film.

I watched this this afternoon:

Funny, touching and incredible that this is a true story.
