Kullervo

Waste of time, despite having a mute woman dancing to Kraftwerk with crutches.

I'm up to Part.8. [of 10] in this excellent mini series.

Anyone else seen this?

I'm also looking forward to the 80min documentary about the 'real' Easy Company, whose surviving soldiers speak movingly at the begining of each episode about their experiences.

Sobering viewing.

Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003)

Rewatched it for probably the 7th or 8th time.  Loved everything about it.  The writing (a nicely done job of combining two of of Patrick O'Brian's novels), directing, acting, music, sets, etc., etc.  Crowe has never been better IMO.
There will never be another era like the Golden Age of Hollywood.  We didn't know how to blow up buildings then so we had no choice but to tell great stories with great characters.-Ben Mankiewicz

Peter Weir directed this one David (I).  When I saw the previews for the first time, I thought it was Scott as well....or possibly Ron Howard, as I quickly associate the two with Crowe.  Funny thing is, Weir has not directed a movie since.  He has a couple of projects lined up for 2008, but nothing really since.

I already had them saved in my queue for when they are released David (II)....our local library has them, but on VHS.  Good thing we still have our VHS player hitched up and running.  :D

Bill--I saw most of them when broadcast on A&E several years back and they were quite well done.  Had forgotten that Peter Weir directed...no wonder they rose so far above typical TV fare!

No, no Weir did the Master and Commander movie.  Some cat named Andrew Grieve did the tv series.  We saw the first one and enjoyed it very much, but then went Netflix and was hopeful of a quick release date of the DVDs.....guess it is back to the VHS, as I had forgotten about them.  Maybe just worth buying outright.  I know Dave (Sonic) enjoyed them as well.  (Slaps head....here we go again gentlemen, another thread going the Daryl, Daryl, and Larry Daryl route  :D.  I am so glad the two Davids are back!)

Duh! (Slaps own head)  Peter Weir, of course, not Scott--my bad!  Thanks for the correction, Bill.

And don't forget that Minnesota Dave is back, too! (dtwilbanks)

Indeed!  I cannot wait for his Univarsal Monster avatars to start kicking in around Halloween time.

Yep, love this movie.

I've been interested in the HH series too. Must investigate  :)

I'm not sure how this movie ended up in my queue  ???

It was hopelessly dated; very early '80s with the pastel colours, blond hair tints [Douglas] and godawful electronic soundtrack.

Geez, it was DUMB!  ;D

A clumsy attempt to cash in on Raiders of the Lost Ark -- Michael Douglas casting himself as the swashbuckling adventurer was hilarious.  De Vito would have been more believable.  But something sure happened to the guy between then and The Ghost and the Darkness.  Somehow he'd acquired the weight to be convincing in such a role.  Maybe becoming a Hollywood heavyweight enabled him to step out of his father's shadow and develop real confidence.
