Is beauty not in the eyes(or ears) of the beholders?

Yes, though it seems that establishing this is no obstacle to the need for people to post pictures of celebrities, though :P

Although there does seem to be some common ground in most people agreeing that these photos are very attractive. I am weird - I do not like publicity photographs of celebrities compared to ones of people who I know, and who would probably be considered not very nice by Hollywood standards. The celebrity photographs seem so manipulated and remote as to make the subject look plain to me, then there is the total lack of personality...

Go here and click 'Portfolio', then 'Agree', then 'Retouched', and select a picture from the left-hand side. Below the picture thumbnails, you'll see some text saying 'Click to see BEFORE*' - click and hold on this text, then unclick, then click again. Watch what happens to the main image. It's terrifying what the media gets away with ...

* If you don't see this text, click 'Composite/manipulation', then go back to 'Retouched'. ;)

What pathetic prude of a moderator removed my picture?

It does not contravene any rule on this board.

knight66

I don't think it was removed, it shows up on my screen as a full size frame with a tiny red 'X' and that usually means that the source of the picture has tracked it and basically withdrawn it. This happened a lot in the older pages of the art threads. We seemed to be able to view them for a while, then they would show up like your one above if I went back to look at them.

Your apology is of course accepted in advance.

Some sites do not permit "hot linking" (i.e., real-time linking to an image) and I suspect this site is one of those.

So sorry...no pathetic prudes here.   8)

Indeed. Some of us may be pathetic, but we're not prudes. Or vice versa.

knight66

Yes, I am not a prude.....I really wanted you to know that.....pathetic really.

Give the spiders back to mother nature. They really are harmless creatures - well, most of them . Take a glass or a cup,put it over the spider, slide a piece of carton or paper under it: voilà! Then go into the garden and release the animal.
Spiders are usefull creatures.

Peter

Agreed.  I leave spiders alone, but I love to smash the juices out of roaches.

What are we talking about now? Or ought I not to ask? I know beauty is subjective...but.....

OK OK - I was carried away.
Here is "beauty"  - for me :

- the Bodoni alphabet ( see my avatar)

The Typographic Manual of Giambattista Bodoni ( 1740–1813 )is the greatest monument ever constructed to the art of printing from metal types. The two-volume work contains a dazzling array of 142 roman alphabets (with corresponding italics), numerous script and exotic typefaces, and a striking collection of flowers and ornaments. These typefaces and decorative materials were the culmination of more than forty years of devotion by Bodoni to the typographic arts, both in his capacity as printer to the Duke of Parma, and as the owner of his own private press and typefoundry.

The son of a master printer, Bodoni held to four principles from which a good typeface derives its beauty: uniformity of design, smartness and neatness, good taste, and charm. At the time of his death Bodoni was working on the first volume of this book, of which only 250 copies of the two-volume set were later published by his widow Margherita

Vodka and cockroach juice - a combination you won't forget (assuming you drink it).  Sounds like a script for Fear Factor.

That's definitely a beauty...beautiful photoshop technique.

pjme

Beauty? Again, I disagree.
Sure, this (photoshopped?) model is young and has regular traits. The photo however ( the way she poses) makes her look  "cheap " and rather stupid.  It is the glamourized ,fake beauty of commercials, B-movies and glossy magazines.
But a real woman, with a brain and a heart ? I doubt it.
