Kimi's recovery in the past few days has been nothing short of remarkable. She is eating well, very active, and gaining weight and strength. She is smiling a lot. Yesterday, the doctors told me that Kimi will have a blood test and liver function test on Tuesday afternoon and, should everything be OK, she can come home by Thursday! I couldn't believe it!

Today, I baked a lot of muffins, some cookies and a large brownie and brought them to the hospital as a treat for the doctors and nurses. Then, in the afternoon and early evening, I did my final two radio shows. I told National Radio that I will be unavailable for a while as I will devote most if not all of my time to Kimi for a while. They are very understanding of this and gave me their blessings.

We will do some shopping tomorrow and have a couple of cleaning ladies for the afternoon to give the house a thorough cleaning. Kimi's room will be up to hospital standard by the time Kimi comes home.

Finally, the family will be together. I have been praying for this moment for the past four weeks, as many of you have on our behalf. This day will finally be here.

I feel blessed. I feel whole.

Blessed is the day indeed, I will open this instant a Riesling wine from 1968, a price bottle, and drink it to Kimi and family.
Uncle Harry is pleased, and very happy for you too. :)

I am sure you have pricier bottles, which I would gladly drink with you when I visit the Netherlands!

No, Paul, this is the single priciest bottle I have, and I will not make you the wiser what this bottle would fetch, but what I say is this, you could buy easily a few hundreds cd's with it, if sold. It was my last bottle of this wine.
Doctor told me to cut back in the drinking, so I am slowly drinking my cellar empty. ;D
But when you come to visit, I will surprise you with a very good wine, that will linger in your taste buds for a very long time. ;D
Cheers. ;D

One of my best friends who passed away a few years ago, was an opera buff and a wine lover. After one of his operations, I visited him and saw him drinking a large quantity of wine.

"Are you supposed to drink wine after surgery?"
"The doctor told me to drink 12 glasses of fluids a day. He did not specify, and I was not all too eager to ask him to clarify, either. As far as I know, Merlot and Pinot Noir are both fluids that fit the description of what the doctor told me."

Good, very good, what a marvelous person that must have been.
I am still giggling over this, and will keep this in mind! ;D ;D

Tremendous news, Paul! Family life can now start in earnest for Kimi, Vanessa and you. Wonderful!  :)

Good luck Paul!  Btw, the real work starts when you bring the baby home, especially for the mother. ;)

Minor setback today, which will delay Kimi's homecoming for a few days. But nothing to be overly concerned about.

Yesterday, Kimi was taken out of the incubator for the first time to get her accustomed to the outside encvironment. For the first time she is dealing with minor temperature changes, air flow, and having the body partially covered, which was never needed before. Apparently she was a bit upset about that, as her body language clearly showed. Then she began to have a small fever (not bad) and, later, a minor infection. Doctor assured us that it is nothing major. She will be day-to-day and may come home in 3 or 4 days. This will make her homecoming on a Chinese Holiday, exactly one month after her birth. Of course, she could come home a day or so early or late, depending on her progress.

Tomorrow we will go get her registered. This will make her an official person when the sensus time come. I guess that makes the population of China 1,300,000,001.

Step by step Kimi is getting there. And registering her tomorrow is another momentous event.

Congratulations, Paul and Vanessa!

Hang in there, Kimi, Vanessa & Paul!

This saga is lasting forever! But we have patience. We have gone through the most difficult part already. We have the coming decades to enjoy our lives together. For that, a few extra days wait is worth it.  ;D

Entirely the right spirit!  :)

Lets pray that everything will be okay :)

Yes from me too. All strength to you all.

Well, just to complicate things, the nanny we have hired had a family emergency and left this morning for her hometown. We will be searching in earnest for a qualified certified nanny with experience with premies. That would take some work in such short notice. Most nannies are booked almost as soon as the expectant date is known. To do so at the last minute now is difficult. That will be my assignment for the next two days.

Anne

Best wishes to all of you!  I hope you take a lot of pictures.

karlhenning

Good luck on the search, Paul! May success attend your efforts!

Novi

Hope you find a good nanny and that Kimi can come home soon. Little girls are absolutely the best 0:).

Bring her to me, I will take good care of her, and my home is clean and air purified to Hospital standards, so what are you waiting for.
Children love to be with me! ;D
