Paul--how are you and Vanessa and Kimi doing these days?  I presume no news is good news...?

Yes, I had been thinking about you three, too. After the rollercoaster of the last weeks, it's eerily/happily silent...

Kimi has been home for a little over a week. She has been such a joy! She smiles in her sleep, and has the loudest cry you will ever hear from someone so small. She seems to understand a few words, as everytime we mention "medicine", "hospital", "injection", she starts to cry.

Two days ago she had one of those days when she cried loudly every few minutes for half a day. We knew something was not right, but did not know what. Finally we went to the hospital. It seems she has gained quite an appitite and was eating more and more. But her digestive system was not ready for such an overload. So we were ordered to feed her less per meal. Now she cired because she's hungry. When she wakes at night, all you need to do is to hold her hands or feet to make her feel safe. Then she goes back to sleep.

She now weigh in at 2.28kg.

Wonderful, Paul! God give you all joy!

Thanks for the update, Paul.  Sounds as if she's getting stronger--at least, if her appetite and lung power are any indication!

Wonderful piece of info!  I shall pass it on to other new parents in hopes it will work for them.  I had never heard of that before.

Glad everything is working out so well for all of you.  Is Vanessa still nursing?  Thanks for the update, Paul.

These two photos taken two days before Kimi left the hospital and on the first day that we saw her, give you a better idea her size. She had two tubes inserted through her nose into her stomach and one needle stuck onto her head. She weighed 1.8kg or 1.9 kg at the time.

Paul, wonderful pictures!  Thanks for sharing them and keeping us updated.  :)

Only a few weeks old, Kimi is already a sneaky little kid. She has to take medicine several times a day, 8 different medicine in all. First, she cried everytime we gave her medicine. Then, she figured out that it was not a good idea because we gave her medicine as she had her mouth open. So when she sees medicine, she cried with her mouth closed. After a few days, realising that we are going to feed her her medication no matter what, she got really smart. She stopped crying and took in the medicine with a smile. Then, she held the medicine in her mouth without swallowing, and acted really cool and natural, like nothing every happened. Then, after a minute or so, when you are not looking, she'd spit it out and smile.

I thought I was good when I invented that trick when I was 3!

Kimi is a timid little girl. She gets scared everytime she burps or farts, and starts to cry.

She also has a short fuse. She looks like me but has her temperment from her mom!
