Yes, prompted by exchanges with the same poster and with a similar attitude that there is more to life.

Personally, I relish a good blood-feud with M.  Can be quite invigorating.  You have to remember that he only thinks he is smarter than everyone else.

Luke gone? This is a terrible loss for this board IMHO. I know for myself it's too exhausting wasting energy on sharks (as well as doing my best with a full-time job in 'real life'), which is why I don't post here too often. But I always enjoyed reading Luke's intelligent and thought-provoking posts on *music*. Would there were more such posters - if not necessarily of his level of knowledge, at least of his ability to treat everyone with respect and to share what he knew with honesty and lucidity.

Eloquent testimony to Luke's excellence.

In Karl's defense (not that he needs it), he is mostly on here when he's at work, IIRC.

That's what I thought, too........ I've always wondered. I used to post while at school. Now I just leave my computer on at home and post when I feel like it. Just saw today that I have the 3rd most posts here- but that's only because I haven't deregistered.

I sort of agree. It's funny how someone who acts so tough is, in reality, so sensitive. They just hide behind a shell- if they didn't care, for real, they wouldn't waste their time writing a 5-paragraph essay detailing how you're an idiot in every imaginable way.
I could've really pulled an M at him when he showed his ignorance on Luke's thread, thinking that form of harmonic notation was strange. I just laughed. Of course, I could've asked him if the orchestration books he's read had a page missing in them.....  ::)

Reminds me so much of one of the latest South Park episodes..... where at the end of the show, Cartman gets beat up by a girl, while all of his friends are watching.
Cartman says to them, "I know, you think Im'm a failure. And you won't like me anymore."
They say, "We never liked you, fatass."
Then Cartman keeps on saying, "Oh no, you don't have to say that. You don't need to to be so nice...... so you really like me?"
They keep on saying no and he says the same thing and the episode is over.

I second that! I enjoyed conversing with Luke and relished his sense of humour :) I am very sorry indeed that he has left and hope that, in time, he will feel able to return. Luke has a very considerable store of musical knowledge and good taste which this board will surely miss :(

I wish him well and know that he will find joy in having more time with his family :)

Have we lost the most knowledgable poster on these boards? I can't think of anyone else here who quite has the breadth and depth that he has?

Afraid so, Guido :(

Me, too. But in the worst case scenario, if he never posts again, at least he's a friend on Facebook........ although i'd still really miss his posts if that were to happen. I don't think anyone here has the vast knowledge of scores (especially rare ones) as he does.......

The funny thing is that Mr O got so upset because I sided with you about the VW thing and the "lack of performance tradition" or whatever it was that he blablaed about. I think that was the only time so far you and me didn't have completely opposite opinions. I guess we have to be careful not to agree again! It could cause more casualties.

BTW, I was right about the wind machine.

Now you're just messing with the half-wits who think we are the same person.

Reacting by deleting his account is totally childish anyway. I did that once or twice, too  ;D

I have a little daughter, well, little - she's already eight now. And I can become slightly melancholy seeing her get older and older. Yes, sometimes it's a pity people grow up.

No. You weren't, Luke won the argument.

Well, only as long as nobody disagreed with him. Then he fell apart immediately. All the pretended intellectuality and aloofness was suddenly gone. Pretty odd.

The irony here is incredible, though of course this is you in disingenuous mode again.

Quote from: M foreverJust forget it, OK? I just meant to help. Just be ivory tower man. You are too much of a genius to accept tips from idiots like me who never got beyond scratching around in professional orchestras but never composed timeless musical materpieces. Who am I to tell a genius like you how you could be more easy to understand in your notation?

Man, I have had to deal with people like you way too often when I still played professionally. I have also dealt with some - very occasionally - who were actually open to practical tips and questions. Usually they were the better ones. Like Philip Glass with who I had the pleasure to work last year and who was open to questions and who wanted things to be as clear and unmistakeable for the players as possible. Reminds me of the old French bass player I once met whose father was a bass player, too, and he told me that he had told him how Ravel sometimes came to the podium in rehearsal or even concert breaks to show manuscripts to the bass and other string players and ask them if everything he wrote was clear and playable. But that is below your dignity, apparently. So you shouldn't use Ravel as an example. You are so much better than he was.

I actually had a few comments about some of the music you posted, but since you aren't even interested in a discussion of notation, I will refrain from saying what I thought. You aren't interested in real criticism anyway, just in ass kissing from other posters. Good luck with your incredible and infallible genius.
