Fabulous.  But I didn't know Andy Sipowicz was in Beaux Arts Trio.  Must get it.

No wonder they never got a bad review!

Johann Ludwig Krebs (1731-1780):
Toccata & Fuga in A minor, the very Bach-esque start of this one:

J.L. Krebs Volume 1/Weinberger

Many reminders of BWV 540 (F Major Toccata), but Krebs (pupil of JSB) certainly was a gifted man himself!

No doubt, but the many JS Bach reminders are in a way unrelieving and only make me want to listen to the master himself.

Well, my advice would be:
buy yourself a CD
of this master rapidly.

Good to have your advice at last, an advice I have followed for years in anticipation of a grant. ;)
Reality trumps our fantasy far beyond imagination.

It is a pity that van Nevel never worked for me, I really dislike his way of handling a Choir, and for that matter voices.
Otherwise this box would have been a great addition to my collection.

Yes, Barenboim shines in the short romantic works, like the Mendelsohhn songs without words on DG, for example.
I've always enjoyed that Liszt recording very much too- the Mendelssohn as well now I think about it.

Just as a reminder, I am renovating a piece of my house and therefore I play a little less music as I would normally do.
That doesn't mean I am not around, simply that I have no time to listen, that's all.

A composer I must investigate.

Portable and headphone, my friend!
Do what I must do, and let what must happen happen.

With all the drilling and hacking in the floors and walls, that's a tad problematic. ;D

Now is your best chance to get into really avant garde music. It just adds to the ambience.  ;D

Hi Harry, my knowledge of Bargiel begins and ends with that disc- but on the basis of it an investigation would seem worthwhile.

I have already some Chamber music from him on MDG, which I like very much, so its only natural to go to his orchestral works.
