Love the old Universal stuff, so had to opt into this version last night.

Good stuff.
"You overestimate my power of attraction," he told her. "No, I don't," she replied sharply, "and neither do you".

Jaakko Keskinen

"Javert, though frightful, had nothing ignoble about him. Probity, sincerity, candor, conviction, the sense of duty, are things which may become hideous when wrongly directed; but which, even when hideous, remain grand."

There will never be another era like the Golden Age of Hollywood.  We didn't know how to blow up buildings then so we had no choice but to tell great stories with great characters.-Ben Mankiewicz

From IMdB

William Castle toyed with other ideas to frighten audience members, in addition to 'percepto'; among them: rolling bean bags to brush against the legs of audience members, speakers mounted at different areas that would give a 'screech' when the tingler appeared, and possibly even using 'shills' to operate some type of mechanical device to tickle the legs of the audience members; but the only viable way of doing it was by attaching buzzers in select seats to coincide with the appearance of the tingler- 'percepto'.

That's one of the reasons I enjoy Joe Dante's nothing if not affectionate 'Matinee' http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107529/ although I generally find him fun to watch for the nods he gives to other directors and cinematographers, and the forced perspective stuff etc he sometimes employs.

I will try to check it out.

A masterpiece that deserves to be much more famous.

+1!
Certain films are highly considered for a short period of time (and The Burmese Harp is one of those), then they are quickly forgotten.

Still Alice

Superb acting from Julianne Moore in charting the rapid mental deteriation following a diagnoisis of early onset Alzheimers.

For me a film like this is more terrifying than any horror film.

FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE
directed by Terence Young       Sean Connery, Daniela Bianchi, Robert Shaw, Lotte Lenya (acting, not singing)       still looks and sounds terrific
A really good commentary track compiled from various sources, not some cast or production members putting in extra time.
"Keep your hand on the throttle and your eye on the rail as you walk through life's pathway."

Karl Henning

Listened to the commentary on To Catch a Thief, roughly equal parts fun and informative.

Dialogue avec mon jardinier/Conversations with My Gardener (2007)   http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0825244/

A successful artist, weary of Parisian life and on the verge of divorce, returns to the country to live in his childhood house. He needs someone to make a real vegetable garden again out of the wilderness it has become. The gardener happens to be a former schoolfriend. A warm, fruitful conversation starts between the two men...

Unsurprising, undemanding and perhaps at points daringly close to becoming twee, however in this role Daniel Auteuil wields a limited palette with comfortable ease. At the very least a charming diversion.

The cinematographer is Jean-Marie Dreujou, who also lensed 'The Girl on the Bridge' and 'Man on the Train' - both of which I found pleasing on the eye.
"You overestimate my power of attraction," he told her. "No, I don't," she replied sharply, "and neither do you".

Well, if you do I hope you enjoy it. :) I find watching Daniel Auteuil is usually worthwhile. His range is relatively wide; he does the somewhat stereotypically hardened cop who chases a serial killer in Mr 73 -

[asin]B0039LAPYI[/asin]

- the unlikeable businessman having an affair with a fashion model in the simple comedy La Doublure

[asin]B000H0MHMW[/asin]

- and poor obsessed Ugolin in Manon des Sources

[asin]B004BH50RQ[/asin]

- which happen to be the next three films I'm going to (re)watch. ;D
