Very cool, Karl. 8) Do you know the String Sextet per chance?

I think I may not.

Do check it out when you have the chance, Karl. I think you'll appreciate the work.

Perhaps a PM (to him, not us!) would not go amiss...

To put this to rest, I did message Kyle via Facebook and he accepted my apology. He said he'll back on GMG, but he hasn't posted lately because he's been quite busy, which I can imagine being the case since he's a college student and plays in the orchestra for this college.

Nice gesture. Thanks for sharing.

An eminently enjoyable "refreshment of the soul".  :)

And more: I am up to the last CD of that set.

From the Menuhin Century set, the Polyptyque and Ballade included in this duo, my first ever listen to either of these works

Supplemented by a recording of the Sonata by  Roy Harris, pianist unknown (taken from a tape in Menuhin's private archive which had no recording data)
And then to the next CD, three 20th century concertos, again all first listens for me
Lennox Berkeley (Menuhin Festival Orchestra, Boult conducting)
Malcolm Williamson (LPO, Boult conducting)
Andrzej Panufnik, Menuhin Festival Orchestra, Panufnik conducting)
Which means this set has four concerto performances conducted by the composer (Elgar, and Walton in both the Violin and Viola Concertos being the others)
Edit:found the CD with these three concertos

I got that one cheaply not long ago and was pleasantly surprised, Menuhin is OK there, and the works are attractive.

Yes, this sub-box is a mix of little gems such as that, and some flops: for instance, a live recital, mostly encore pieces, recorded in 1945 in Moscow, whose sonics, even by Soviet 1940s standards, are well below par. But the good more than balances out the bad, most notably the full complement of recordings Menuhin made with Enesco and Furtwangler.

Belgium and the Netherlands were almost swept away this afternoon, by a very fierce and devastating storm.

Really enjoyed the Burleske.

Me, too. Do listen to Argerich, as well, in this, if you haven't already.

I also enjoyed the performance of the Brahms concerto, especially the last movement which is always kind of a letdown. There's litheness and spontaneity here, worthy of a Chopin concerto finale - a well-played one!

Argerich and Janis are my gold standards there - Moog seemed fine on first listen.
