I have come to terms with no complete Markevitch box.

I have these:

[asin]B000001GXH[/asin]

[asin]B008PC1GE4[/asin]

[asin]B00000416A[/asin]

[asin]B0000041BS[/asin]

[asin]B0036BDPVG[/asin]

[asin]B0000041AF[/asin]
(Only Symphony of Psalms is Markevitch)

I have on order

[asin]B00009LW31[/asin]

[asin]B00000416F[/asin]
(Only Apollo is Markevitch)

And I plan to get downloads of these OOP releases

(Symphonie Fantastique + some smaller works)

(Only plan to download Harold in Italy).

Maybe I can snag a copy of the Beethoven 5 and 8 on the French release.

That, in conjunction with Murphy's Law, should be sufficient to precipitate a complete Markevitch edition from DGG/Decca, I think. :)
I especially like the Honegger DGG CD.
"Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm" (Churchill).

For me the most fascinating piece on the Milhaud/Honegger/Roussel is Les Choéphores. Milhaud wrote a lot of fluff, so I did not expect such a dark and strange piece from him. Although Bernstein's recording (w/ Roussel 3rd symph) is probably better, not least because of the sound.
Tout le malheur des hommes vient d'une seule chose, qui est de ne savoir pas demeurer en repos, dans une chambre.

Better sound but worse singers, with dreadful French accents.

The Wien Modern series was some of the best stuff Abbado recorded.

Oh cool - I have been very lucky so far with my ignorant purchasing :D.

I keep stumbling across cheap stuff - Ligeti, Xenakis, Takemitsu and Ichiyanagi (I think) on this one.

Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

Don't forget the Berlin Phil Pathétique. Great mono sound, incredible performance.
Or Markevitch conducting the Philharmonia in a stereo "Rite of Spring". On vinyl I don't think there is many better performances.
You must have a very good opinion of yourself to write a symphony - John Ireland.

I opened the door people rushed through and I was left holding the knob - Bo Diddley.

Christmas is the season...I went to Amazon to order a couple of things, and found every vendor is now only promising shipment in 6-12 days. So no Amazon purchases until after 12/25 I guess.

I found some wonderful gifts. Or they would have been, had I found them in October ...

I always wanted to get these two Chung/Vienna recordings of Dvorak's 3, 6-8, glad to see them bundled.

André

certainly enticing. Chung doesn't seem to have followed up with the remainder, so that might be all the Dvorak we'll get from him. My fave Dvorak symphony is no 6.

Enjoy! They are super good. His Dvorak and Nielsen are among my favorites.

One of the vendors involved was Rarewaves in the UK. I simply assumed they were giving themselves leeway for the Christmas rush.

The 6th is great, Andre. And fortunately for us fans there is a no shortage of great recordings of the work. Dohnanyi/CLEV, Jarvi/SNO, Rowicki/LSO to name a few...
