The string quartets contain some truly delightful music. I was very happy to have heard them the last year.

Very nice. I've heard of few of them and really liked what I heard. Milhaud is one of those 'popcorn' composers for me --- I buy one recording, I end up with five more. ;) This set of the complete SQs was not cheap either. I bought it second-hand and the price, while not good, was better than I've seen, especially in the condition I bought it in. Milhaud along with Poulenc are my favorite composers from Les Six. I think both of these composers have the most diverse oeuvres of any other member.

Very good interpretation of his works, one pretty album.

I also purchase Plain-chant de la Cathedral d'Auxerre, ensemble Organum (a surprise), I don't know how it will sound.

I think you made a good choice. The Kodály Quartet Beethoven quartets are very good, and I've heard great things about the Jandó sonatas cycle.

More a way of keeping to a budget....and the price has dropped somewhat since it first came out.

The real reason I got is for all the "rarities", the odds and ends that don't normally ever recorded, or are only used as fillers.  I already have over 40 LvB symphony cycles, 20 piano sonata cycles, and at least a dozen string quartet cycles (including the Talich set that just landed two days ago).   But as best I can tell,  I have at most one or two of the recordings in this Naxos set.

Purchased some more Milhaud:

I'm not going to lie --- these recordings were difficult to track down. Apparently, there was a box set released of this series from Saphir Productions, but it's OOP.

Also bought:

Ms. Tanyel doesn't cut a Yuja Wank silhouette, but she tickles the ivories with panache. I bought it mainly for the Chopin, but I'm curious about the Scharwenka.

Note: concerto no 1 in both cases (the right side of the image seems to be cropped)

Wow, Collins Classics.
When reading this thread I subconsciously expect to see fairly recent releases, but Collins shut down before the turn of the century! I own some recordings on the label, mostly bought from Berkshire Record Outlet decades ago. For instance the Tippett string quartets 1-4, recorded before #5 was written - gotta update that one...

Yup. 1991 vintage. The disc of concertos 2 and 3 I listened to today is from 1997. A fine label.

But it appears nonetheless that she may wear a Freudian slip ...

Continuing my project of purchasing cheapo recordings containing Cage number pieces:

Definite risk here, but monetary outlay is not large.
I had cut back on recording purchases due to stock market meltdown, but now will be staying at home so much that it'll be my only discretionary spending.

Somehow I missed this recording whenever it was first released. Decided it was time I rectified that.

There were a lot of very good releases on Collins - both musically and technically - a shame it was so short lived but many of those recordings have turned up on Regis/Alto/Naxos under licence

I just won this in an auction:

The work was recommended to me many months ago I believe by Mandryka. I saw this release in the New Albion catalog, listened to some of the samples, and had to have it. Excited to spend time with the music.

Over the weekend.

This (which I actually did this past weekend) will probably be my last purchase for a while, given that the ongoing retail shutdowns will probably mean I won't have any work to go to after tomorrow....

For those who are in a buying mood, Arkivmusic is having a one day sale today (March 19).
