Stanley Bate: Symphony No.3

Now, Erik Chisholm's 'Pictures from Dante' - his masterpiece I think.

That a firm favourite in my list, and I mean all what is on this disc!
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

"When Time hath gnawed our bones to dust, yet friendship's echo shall not rust"

Indeed - I think it's quite a magical work.
+1 for the CPO cello concertos CD posted by Daverz.

Now playing. VW Violin Sonata - I'm getting to appreciate this performance more although some sections still sound slightly rushed and without the emotional gravitas of the Music Group of London performance, for example. Still, I'm pleased to have the CD not least for the violin and piano version of the Lark:
"Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm" (Churchill).

'The test of a work of art is, in the end, our affection for it, not our ability to explain why it is good' (Stanley Kubrick).

I agree Harry. It's probably my favourite Dutton disc of all time.

She is certainly a very attractive woman, although I have an aversion against the instrument she is using. When in my teens I was forced to learn to play the Blokfluit, much to my chagrin I might add, but I learned to play it.

Just on:  This Box, Bliss and Vaughan Williams CD on Chandos.  Besides the VW, I particularly enjoyed the third movement--"Adagietto espressivo" section.  And lovely clarinet playing by Janet Hilton!
