Just landed, at long last. Unwieldy in a way other than the Lenny boxes, but unwieldy, all the same ;)

I think you need a trip to the cdcdcdcd thread if that still exists!

I am sure that there will be much enjoyment contained therein, Karl. Enjoy your listening project ahead.

What do you think of that recording of the Wunderhorn Lieder plus the Symphony 10 Adagio? I've been eyeing that one too, plus the 1st, which I've seen rave reviews for.

I think I may have only listened to this recording once, so I can't really comment on the merit of the performance, but I may do a traversal of Boulez's Mahler whenever I go on vacation next week. 8) By the way, I can tell you Boulez's recording of the 1st symphony is top-drawer. Definitely worth your time!

Great stuff, vers! Both great recordings. That Karajan is one of my favorite recordings of the 6th. The Rückert-Lieder and Kindertotenlieder are also just top-notch performances all-around --- Ludwig is in her usual beautiful voice.

I was missing about half of these recordings. Very generous playing time, ridiculously low price.

For those interested, JPC has a small sale of Timpani recordings. I paid something like 45€ for these 6 items, shipping included.

The performance of the slow movement in Karajan's M6 is amazingly intense. One of the high points in his discography, IMO.

Florestan

I once expressed my desire to hear Beethoven's Emperor PC played not like the in-your-face heroic bombast we usually hear, but more like a Haydnesque, good-humoured and lyrical work --- and someone (I cannot for the life of me remember who it was) recommended me Bezuidenhout. So here I go:

That disc has caught my attention too. Do report when you've listened to it, John, and good day to you.

You too, Rafael. A member here (forget their name at the moment) praised the performances of the Schoenberg claiming it's the best performance of this concerto he has heard.

That was Todd in a brief post:

Expected good things.  Got very good things.  This may well be the best version of the Schoenberg I've heard.  Of course, I've heard only a few, though only from top shelf pianists (eg, Pollini, Uchida, and Brendel).

Some stuff from JPC sales and a bit of second-hand from Copenhagen, bought about a month ago, that is, before my now concluded small Norwegian trip.

All new items for my collections, with the exception on Pavel Stepan plays Josef Suk, Saint-Saens piano music box, plus some of the content of the Vox Avantgarde twofers, where I had it all or some of it on LP already. The Knussen/DG I only had as a download.

The 3 CDs with Ries' chamber music were probably the most redundant buyings of the bunch.

McEwen's violin sonatas have been a bit of a revelation; how come this composer is so obscure, compared to some others?
