Wovon man nicht sprechen kann, darüber muss man schweigen

Not sure if anyone else is a big fan/follower of the pianist Yevgeny Sudbin, but I noticed that his "new" release of Scriabin (Poem of Fire) is a 2017 recording, dug deeper, and realized he hasn't released any new albums recorded since 2018. Investigating further, it looks like he took most of the pandemic off to raise his kids - and indeed to teach them all piano. He's just finished recording a new album of Tchaikovsky four-hand duets with his 11-year-old daughter Bella.

MORE OCTOBER STUFF

I have no idea how John Wilson and Chandos choose their recording projects.

Bellafronte b. 1961

Rouvali's Third is actually longer than his Fifth by track timings. That has to be an unusual achievement.

Alpha must be the only label still using opus numbers for Schubert.

Ifukube - Japanese Suite
Janacek - Moravian Dances, Lachian Dances, Suite Op. 3

EVEN MORER IN OCTOBERER

Cool to see Mustonen's skills as a composer given a full album of their own, but this is a short album - the quartet is 22' and the quintet is 22'.

This is tenor Ian Bostridge with the late, lamented Lars Vogt.

Finally, one of Todd's favorite Beethoven cycles gets boxed up in a set:

The promo material contains this comment from composer Gerald Barry: "Tom Adès decided on this pairing. It startled me. The first record I bought when I was about 13 was Beethoven's Emperor Concerto. We didn't have a record player so all I could do was study the cover and advertisements on the back. I could look and see but not hear. I would take the record out and smell it. I used my nose as a stylus going round and round."

For those who have not been following Naxos' Brazilian Classics series too closely, there is a special 6 CD box set of previously released material coming out this fall as a sort of sampler collection to whet your appetite. It contains a disc each of Nepomuceno, Villa-Lobos, Guarnieri, Guerra-Peixe, Santoro, and Almeida Prado. Full tracklistings and artwork at ArkivMusic, which has a limited time offer of $25 for the six discs.

I may buy as I've streamed the series but not purchased any, and the Guarnieri and Guerra-Peixe albums selected are my two favorites so far. There is a range of styles here from the 19th century Romantic sounding Nepomuceno, who was influenced by Grieg, to the more outright modernism of Santoro and the nearly contemporary Almeida Prado (who invented something he called "transtonality" and died in 2010).

You obviously don't mess with tonality.

Referring to the press release by Universal about the Wagner/Solti – Ring. Could it be Universal is using the transfer the Japanese Stereo Sound  label released in 2018 (SSHRS-019/021, not available anymore) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JP8H7ZW?tag=hraudio-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1

Quote from: Brian on September 06, 2022, 07:34:05 AMI would expect "the Citizen Kane of classical recording" to include as many technical innovations and achievements as that film, techniques which forever altered how music was recorded, in addition to obvious, lasting artistic merit.

Not sure if there is any recording that fits that analogy.

We are at least two decades away from anything that could fit into that category.

Arcadelt, Willaert, Gombert and a few people I've never heard of.

Always good to hear the 1751 Hemsch.

Minnersänger. This could well be outstanding.

I should have thought you were strongly against doctus-cum-libroGoogle types, but thanks anyway.

Google is absolutely fantastic for looking up factoids that do not even rise to the level of trivia, and it can prevent one from unnecessarily asking silly questions about said factoids.

My question was directed to Mandryka, not to you and I'm sure his answer would have been / will be much less snide than yours. But of course this is a free forum, anyone can say whatever they please and pleases their inflated or trollish ego.
