I love this man's chamber music, and this is one of his best works IMO.

Absolutely! Juon's chamber music output is really something special. I think his two piano quartets, especially, represent him at the height of his powers. Really personal, imaginative, deeply-felt, and engaging music from start to finish. I can't recommend this disc highly enough:

Some more guitar music from performers we saw years ago locally - have not pulled out this eclectic collection in a while - Dave :)

Quote from: The new erato on November 25, 2022, 02:05:28 AMNever been a great Glazunov fan, but I found this set (recently played in its entirety) to be both very pleasant music, well played and extremely well recorded.

I'm not enthusiastic about the symphonies, but I like the string quintet very well, so I may well investigate these.

Well, still on my 'Performer's Collection', i.e. one or more musicians doing multiple composers and/or varied compositions - Dave :)

A new arrival today from 'across the pond':

Bach, CPE - Keyboard-Violin Works w/ Rie Kimura on Baroque violin and P-J Belder on harpsichord and fortepiano - period performances; now I also recently obtained the 2-disc set (below right) w/ Tamsin Waley-Cohen and James Baillieu on modern instruments; the compositions included on both double CD sets are identical (Wq. 71-80) - for this era I like having both PI/MI performances - as to reviews, check the attachment if interested; both are well received.  Dave :)

The Faure piano music disc I did not know I desperately needed.  It's some of the very best Faure playing I've heard.

It sure would be nice if Decca reissued all of Roge's recordings.  I own comparatively few and might be enticed to buy a complete set.

Must buy.

I love Rogé's Debussy and Ravel discs, so getting him playing Fauré is a no-brainer.

The Isbin record is excellent!

It's been a little bit since I last listened.  It's always lovely to hear this, where Mr Pogorelich uses his unlimited ability to push and pull the music this way and that, to tremendous effect.

Sort of an afterthought in my recent download purchase, this recording is quite remarkable.  It sounds beautiful start to finish, and never more so than when the women sing.  The harmonies approach Morales levels of aural intoxication.  Maybe there's something in the water in Spain that inspires such beauty.  I hope to get to Victoria's massive Passion this weekend to test that pseudo-hypothesis.

Savall has just released a new CD of selections from the Codex.

About 15-20 years ago there was a website that focused on this Codex, but it seems to have vanished into the aether some time ago.
