Other new releases:
The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied. The terror IS REAL!

Todd

The complete DG and Decca recordings.  265 discs.

Handel on a proper piano.  Oh yes, please!

The universe is change; life is opinion. - Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

People would rather believe than know - E.O. Wilson

Propaganda death ensemble - Tom Araya

Wonder if the Abbado/Berlin and Abbado/London box sets will go on super clearance sale now that they are being replaced by the Abbado/Everything box.

Wonder if anyone really likes Abbado enough for the Lenny-style 265 CD treatment.

Hyperion in March!

I don't know if it's the new Widmann cadenzas or the tempos, but this is an unusually slow performance at 52:39 with track timings 26:06 / 14:23 / 12:10. The coupling is the 8-minute fragment concerto in C, WoO 5.

For the right price, I'd buy.  I'll see if it ends up at the ~$200 range.

All Morales releases are to be celebrated.

The Widmann cadenzas sell it for me.

(Another Timbre)
Wovon man nicht sprechen kann, darüber muss man schweigen

Mandryka

Looks like they're applying the same formula they used for Josquin to other Renaissance composers. There's a teaser on Spotify of a Janequin song. His voice seems to have a slightly different quality, less confident, less intense, than he had three years ago. We shall see.

How refreshing to return to the aesthetic ideas of Gothic Voices after I've become saturated by the likes of Ariadno, Beauty Farm and Graindelavoix, Like a glass of spring water after a diet of Yquem and Petrus. Rule Britannia!

I enjoyed it, but the approach is indeed "light & bright".

First batch of FEBRUARY news:

Bella Sudbin is Yevgeny's young daughter, and appears on four-hands tracks of the waltzes from Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty.

Are dates available for this?  It may be a straight reissue of the below.

Second group of FEBRUARY releases.

Giltburg plays a Fazioli in his ongoing Beethoven cycle. He also takes the cover photos.

This is NOT Wilhelm Peterson-Berger.

Ascher Fisch conducts the Walker and Roderick Cox the Dawson, a fact that is, bizarrely, only revealed by the picture captions in the booklet.

For this Niels Viggo Bentzon album, Dacapo has decided against putting any words on the front cover.

First time I've heard of Justin Holland.

And finally, a new reissue series designed to cause our resident audiophiles to argue with each other.

That means a purchase decision could be based on price.

And writing of price, I can't wait to see the pricing for 24/192 transfers of former super-budget analog recordings.

Re the Seattle Symphony Walker CD

The Cleveland Orchestra Walker CD treats the soprano (Latonia Moore) in Lilacs and the narrator (Tony F. Sias) in Symphony No 5 almost the same way, although they do get artist bios: shown in the photos but omitted from the cover and track listings.

They also packaged the CD wierdly, btw, so it resembles a brochure from a cruise line or real estate developer, 7 1/4 inches by 7 3/4 inches, soft plastic cover booklet with the CD on the inside front cover.

Nimrod Borenstein wrote a great Violin Concerto (on a Chandos recording), so I have high expectations for that new release featuring his PC.

Does anybody know what happened to the Ansermet Decca Big Box? "The Stereo Years," was supposed to come out in May 2022 but appears to have never made it to market. I wonder if there were technical/logistical difficulties.

Anyway here is another Biggish Box on the way...I seem to vaguely remember this popping up before, (EDIT: Yes, definitely, there was a discussion about the 4 CDs of Peter & the Wolf duplications). But it has now been delayed and rescheduled for March.
