Kazuo Yamada.
A song of young people-Little Symphonic Poem.
Kiso, Old Japanese Melody.
Symphonic Suite "India". (Spellbinding)
Grand Treasure.
Russian PO, Dimitry Yablonsky.

I collected almost all the CD's in this series, and with good reason, for it is most of the time extremely well composed music, and the performances are a match to that.
This CD is a State of the Art recording.

Interesting. Never knew the composer or the disc. Will check the recording.

Quote from: Karl Tirebiter Henning on February 09, 2023, 06:51:49 AMIt's a peculiar thing: Ibert is one of those composers I don't generally think of, yet I always enjoy his music when I do hear it.

What's his music like, gentlemen? I mean, please fill in the sentence:

If you like...., then you will like Ibert too.

Thanks. Right up my alley, then. Wishlisted.

Btw, here's what Ravel said about La valse:

There's nothing subtle about the project. It's a grand waltz, a kind of tribute to the great Strauss, not Richard, the other one, Johann. You know how I love those admirable rythms, and how I feel that the joie de vivre expressed in the dance is much more profound than our French puritanism.

(Letter from February 1906 to his friend Jean Marnold, quoted in the booklet of Ravel: Music for Four Hands - Louis Lortie, Helene Mercier (Chandos))

"Ja, sehr komisch, hahaha,
ist die Sache, hahaha,
drum verzeihn Sie, hahaha,
wenn ich lache, hahaha! "

Blimey, I never knew Clara Schumann was recorded. This is a must have for me.  ;D

Seriously now, I don't have that Fricsay boxset (a situation which I should remedy asap) but I have this one:

so one of these days I'm going to listen to those performances. What do you make of them, by the way?

Danzi, Franz (1763-1826) - Bassoon Quartets w/ the period instrument group 'island' - Jane Gower on a period bassoon - new arrival but a used CD which played fine; a few reviews attached.  Dave :)

P.S. not sure what the cover art has to do w/ the music but by Nina Targan Mouravi - looks like Albrecht Dürer's rhinoceros w/ some birds on its back -  ;D

Nothing at all, to be sure. Belongs squarely in the "Worst Cover Art" thread.

Quote from: Papy Oli on February 09, 2023, 06:18:55 AMHi Jan,

By any chance, Would you have a picture of the back cover for that set please ? I can only find a few of the single releases on Discogs.

I think I have 2 discs worth of Bruhns, 2 of Buxtehude, 2 of Weckmann from this already, I am curious to see the remaining works/CD's I am missing. Thank you.

Of course Oliver.....

There is also this one (not included in the box)

There is also this box (oop now) wich contains many recordings and without the lyrics.
