I heard that news too.  I can't believe that people would do otherwise.  ::)

US debt ceiling deal narrowly passes Senate averting catastrophic federal default

The vote was 63-36, yet the word "narrowly" was used in the headline.  It appears AI generates headlines for The Graun now.  That should be big news everywhere.

I don't pretend to understand convoluted Senate rules, but the article says 60 votes were needed and the bill received 63. That strikes me as passing narrowly.

*cough* that hardly qualifies as UNIMPORTANT news as it would have global repercussions.

I suggest reading about the 1979 US federal government default.  The world did not end.  Also, Eric Cantor gave away the game the last time around.

If "vulgarity and violence" were the litmus test for teaching a literary work in primary schools, then not only Charles Perrault, the Brothers Grimm, Lewis Carroll, Edmondo de Amicis, Carlo Collodi or any other classical and celebrated writer of tales or children books, but also each and every traditional folk tale, irrespective of country, would fail it.  ;D

By this token, we should really stop teaching anything and everything, for somewhere someone would surely find it offensive.  ;D

I suspect the Book of Mormon was not banned.

The curious irony here is, both that in most of the 50 States, the Bible would not be taught in the public schools, because of the separation of Church from State (which so many of the anti-intellectual Yahoo states are happily flouting, anyway, and Utah's being, still, so substantially Mormon.

I take your point. And, of course, parents are always free to teach their children the Bible at home.

It apparently was (referring here to the Bible) banned in one district in Utah for primary and middle school libraries (but not at high school level).

Someone (no idea if it was the same person/group or not) has also requested that the BOM also be banned (same district) for the same reasons.
