Enjoyed this on its initial run. The later seasons really got trippy and weird though.

Dark, gritty, and violent. Opening scene in a space brothel followed by some gruesome violence questioned whether I should have included my daughter.

I'll report in time, but I may just be fine with that ....
I first made the show's acquaintance when I was in Tallinn. My host family liked to watch as it was broadcast from Finnish telly in Helsinki, just across the Gulf of Finland. They also enjoyed The Commish.

"What's a bagel?"
I remember going on a vacation with a friend in Colorado.  We were in some town up in the mountains (I suspect that it was just outside of Rocky Mountain National Park) and I asked for a bagel....  ;D This was in the 80's.

Just watched a deliciously tense episode from the '88 season of Mission: Impossible, "Reprisal."

A three-part drama on BBC2, directed by Shane Meadows, based on the true tale of a gang of 18th century 'coin clippers' who almost broke the Georgian cash economy. Like everything else I've seen by Meadows it's quite brilliant, and at times sensationally funny. Freshness and realism just spill out of his characters and dialogue, something he achieves by allowing actors to improvise on the script framework, hardly unique to him, but what he gets with it most certainly is. The actors, some of whom he works with regularly, are all excellent.

And in terms of the historical drama genre, it felt absolutely new, I've never seen such naturalism in such a setting, and it's powerfully invigorating. He may well have kicked off a brand new genre. I hope so.

The Mandalorian: Season 3 (2023)

After watching the dark seriousness of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan, and Andor, I really appreciate the injections of lightness in The Mandalorian.

I'm far into The Stranger, a Harlan Coben creation and written by several contributors.  It's a pretty good British mystery/murder mystery series, (I rate it 7/10*).

Watching British dramas recently, (very good as a genre and better than American efforts), I struck by a couple of things:
  • Apparently Britain is populated about 50% by Blacks and South Asians or multi-racial folk, and
  • Racist attitudes have been entirely eradicated in Britain -- a wonderful thing of course.

A stellar cast in the drama series Litvinenko based on true events. David Tennant plays the title role superbly, looking like Litvinenko and speaking like Litvinenko, often in Russian. That most Scottish of actors Mark Bonnar playing a bigwig in the Met Police speaks with a cockney accent! Which when he first appeared a jaw-dropping moment. He said haase instead of house which is straight out of 'EastEnders'. I thought Neil Maskell stole the show playing the investigating officer for the murder of Litvinenko.
With all the bad publicity the Met are presently receiving they don't come out of this particular case too badly.
You must have a very good opinion of yourself to write a symphony - John Ireland.

Star Wars: Clone Wars (2003-2005)

Just happened upon this one. A strange visual style that reminded me of the MTv-animted Æon Flux alongside a rather peculiar sense of humor.

There was a very odd moment with C3P0 where he shows off his new gold plating, but accompanied by space strip tease music and lingering on his can. (video below)

Lots and lots of actual 'star' 'wars' though, so it was generally satisfying! An awesome sequence with Mace Windu among others. About 2 hours to watch the entire output.

This decade old, short form documentary popped up as a suggested title on Amazon Prime, and for the first time since at least 2016, Amazon got something right.  I'm used to PBS Nova/Secrets of the Dead style documentaries for such subjects, and this French production covering a Franco-Mongolian dig is low rent by comparison.  The historical animation is dreadful, the credited narrator sounds like a machine and mispronounces some words, and even the description of the age of the tomb in the ad blurb is wrong.  But the actual content is nice enough, covers a geographic area rarely/never covered otherwise and cultures rarely/never discussed - ancient Eastern Scythians and modern Mongolian Kazakhs - and includes first and last footage of the excavations of some ancient tombs with actual archeological and viewer payoffs.  Apparently Freevee has a variety of other short form documentaries.  I may very well see if any of them are worth viewing.
