This seems outstanding. Really special.
Wovon man nicht sprechen kann, darüber muss man schweigen

Spotted on Presto and mostly in September...

Although the cover doesn't say so, this recital is 100% Arvo Pärt. Sonatas 1 and 2, Fratres, and five miniatures, totaling 69 minutes.

Looks like Renaud changed labels.  I wonder if Gautier did or will.

I hope DG lets her record as much as she can while she still can (and hopefully that is a long time).

July. Looks like a must-purchase for me.

The Piano Concerto seems to have disappeared from the available downloads for this set.  Here's the current Presto product pic:

I have the LP, which sounds awful (very tinny), but I was hoping Sony might be able to improve the sound.  Luckily we have a very fine recent recording of the Piano Concerto on Cedille.

Never heard of Leiviskä until today, and Dacapo has designed another terrible cover art.  ::)

The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied. The terror IS REAL more than ever!

More concertos by Aho, this is man is quite prolific!

This is great news. Her Symphony #3 is well worth the effort.
"A quiet secluded life in the country, with the possibility of being useful to people ... then work which one hopes may be of some use; then rest, nature, books, music, love for one's neighbour — such is my idea of happiness"

Well that's a rather interesting development...

I have just been delivered the physical CDs, and there is no Piano Concerto (or CD with a blue cover, as the one that appears in the picture Brian originally posted)...  ::)

But well, I see that that recording was on RCA, and that the composer wasn't involved in it (he had died a year before it was made as far as I can tell), so the new box is not shortchanging us when it says "Complete Columbia Album Collection "...

It still would have been complete with the extra CD. ;)
I wonder if there were unforseen licensing issues, or if they thought this was as subpar as I do.

Looking through my collection, I see that this Maria Teresa Rodriguez/Eduardo Mata recording of the Piano Concerto did appear on CD on a Mexican label (Antología de la Música Clásica Mexicana Vol. 2).

It still sounds terrible, tinny and swimmy.

There are two "modern" recordings I know of, both with pianist Jorge Federico Osorio, one conducted by Carlos Miguel Prieto on Cedille

and the other by Enrique Arturo Diemecke on the Spartacus label:

There was also an old recording on Westminster by Eugene List.  Wikipedia as page on the concerto with a discography.

I heard them play the Joey Roukens piece, and it's really great music!

They must be one of the best new quartets around today. They make that Roukens piece sound incandescent.

(Nice to see you here again!)

Thanks for the welcome back, and likewise! Although it's not really a return, I just lurk a lot. ;)

Arditti Quartet play an arrangement of Evil Nigger, and there's also a track with an accordion arrangement. The Arditti is wicked!

Do we know any of these players from other groups and/or solo work? It's kind of unusual to just see 4 individuals named.

I do! They all have some solo recordings available: Ridout a recent viola performance of the Elgar cello concerto (I believe that is a composer-sanctioned arrangement), Dego is a Chandos signee who maybe played Mozart concertos on Roger Norrington's last ever recording if I remember right?, the cellist has a recital disc of Czech music that I thought was not super alluring (wanted to love it because of the repertoire). The real danger sign is the pianist, who has albums of totally self-indulgent Scarlatti where he plays every dynamic change, tempo change, sudden staccato, luftpause, and embellishment that enters his brain. I like dynamic pianistic Scarlatti (Pletnev, Sudbin) but Colli sounds like he suffers ADHD or terminal self-satisfaction.

I saw the cellist play Martinu 1st concerto on tour with the Brno PO in the UK last October - she was excellent.
