p.s.  The great thing about it:  lots of cats have been adopted since she started the event (has changed a bit over the years.  If interested, read the article).

Quote from: Pohjolas Daughter on July 27, 2023, 08:29:31 AMWhen trying to find out a bit more about the two sisters and the son who had passed away in Colorado, I stumbled across this sweet story:

'The genesis of this year's Cat Fest is a typo.

Former co-founder and co-owner of the Denver County Fair Dana Cain was doing an interview in 2015 in which she mentioned the "kitchen pavilion" as a fair event. The reporter accidentally printed "kitten pavilion," and Cain had no choice but to locate some cats.

"They printed we had a kitten pavilion," Cain said. "So I said 'OK well, we have to do it!'"

That's because it's fraud.

Yep!  According to that article, they also brought containers that had previously been redeemed back.  :o How the heck?  My guess is that they purchased them somewhere as scrap metal (post-redemption) and then brought them back to a California redemption site to cash in on them.

Sad that there are still so many states that don't have a redemption program.  :(

It is said that Putin's attempt to destroy the Cathedral in Odessa on 23 July was not accidental. The cathedral contained a very important icon. Believers consider this icon not only miraculous, but that it has the ability to protect the town where it is located. That was allegedly established already during the Crimean War of 1854, when Odessa was shelled by the Anglo-French naval fleet. Putin, like Hitler, is fond of all kinds of occultism, so the version is not without some plausibility. Although it is not quite clear how a person who believes in the power of icons can try to destroy one of them and not bring all sorts of trouble on himself.

P.S.: It is reported that the icon was not damaged, although the room where it was located was almost completely destroyed.

Putin believes in no other power than his own. His posturing as a devout defender of Orthodox Christianity is disgusting.

Since it is a simple yes/no question, and GMG is filled with geopolitical and military experts, I do too.
