Started:

14-part BBC documentary from 1985 chronicling the independence of former British colonies after WW2.

It seems to have never been released on VHS or dvd, but some friend of humanity taped it off tv way back when and has uploaded it to YT. The tape had deteriorated quite a bit between those two events, so you can enjoy all the nostalgia of rough VHS issues you may remember fondly.

But if you can cope with that I can say after having now watched the first four episodes that its excellent.

The cover above is for a book that was released in conjunction with the series.

I didn't know how they could have a followup when the first season completely did the first novel... but it turns out Neil Gaiman is involved.  Of course Terry Prachett can't be since he is no longer with us.

I'll have to give it a watch.  I liked season 1 and the novel.

We tried a couple of episodes of Good Omens but it was so much - so much energy, so much activity, so much "acting." I loved the book in high school, and it seemed true to the book...maybe my brain has gotten slower over time  ;D

That was increasingly my problem with the "new" Dr Who (I use quotations because even this revival of Dr Who has been around for 18 years now!).  Talking fast and magic bs replaced scifi and was giving me a migraine.

GO2 is not quite as plot driven as Season 1. It is more for the sake of enjoying being with these characters and their quirks. Never had a chance to read the novel.

Miracle Workers.  Some travel TV, a show I did not even know existed until a few days ago.  In it, Steve Buscemi plays God, as the daffy and jaded CEO of Heaven, Inc.  Daniel Radcliffe plays a low level employee in the miracles department.  Through various plot devices, God makes a bet with a young, spry up-and-comer employee wherein either the new employee works an impossible miracle, usually set aside for God, or God destroys the earth.  Predictable, silly, but some of the gags work in a 1920s-1930s throwback sort of way.  In a cast of mostly nobodies, Karan Soni stands out.  The big stars earn their paychecks, too.

Doth not the appetite alter?

What We Do in the Shadows
Season 5 (2023)

Humor used to be sharper, although I still enjoy some of the characters and situations. Now the show is more of an excuse for not-so-shocking cursing and sexual content.

The original Taika Watiti movie is still worth seeing for the unusual mockumentary vampire setup.

I really liked the first two seasons and the movie but I drifted off.  I also used to watch Wellington Paranormal (which funny enough was on hbo max instead of hulu).

I will have to check it out if it is still available.

I'm in Norge for Unni Lindell. It's super creepy. Also I'm in Danmark (Aarhus to be precise) for Dicte, which is a bit soapish but has good characters so what are you gonna do, not watch? It's a fun show.

Found this at the secondhand store yesterday. Would have passed it by were it not for the recommendations on this thread. Watched the first three episodes last night.

I watched a couple of episodes tonight. I take it Fred hasn't shown up yet.

Nope. The last thing I saw was kicking her husband and his sister out for mismanaging the hotel.

But more tonight.

I'm not yet watching, but I just ordered the dvd of Shoulder to Shoulder, which is one of the best of the BBC '70s series, but unfortunately was never released on a legit dvd and has apparently been lost forever. All that exists is VHS recordings. You can see these on YT. Some episodes are OK, others are atrocious, so I'm hoping the bad ones will be better represented on the dvd. I'd settle for that.

The worst such case is the film The Magic Toyshop. The dvd is horrible, not even watchable.
