Toch, String Quartet No 10

More forward looking in its construction than the quartet No 7. I really liked the angular first movement, and the slow second movement, progressing from homophonic voice leading, the gentle tapestry of melody, to an intense central section, before more or less retracing it's steps. The third movement is a bit tongue in cheek and the finals is a fun affair, all over the place in temp and mood.

I had not realized that Leinsdorf recorded a whole set.

From the mono era?

The late symphonies are in mono, the early in stereo.  The 38th is in mono, good mono though.

Shockingly dull Manfred.  I thought Previn wouldn't let me down.  I'll switch to Jurowski when I'm home.

I discovered I can stream it. What mainly surprises me is that an entire Mozart Symphony Cycle on a major label can exist that didn't know about.

I love that set!  :)

Between those novels and the past 30 years or so of murder mysteries, I think everyone in Great Britain has been murdered three times over!

I have a number of sets from that series; I'm sure that the Leinsdorf would be a good one.  Drat, I wish that I had it.  ;)

I didn't know about either until Florestan mentioned it on the Mozart thread in the context of the 38th.

You are not alone... I read these were recorded by Westminster, and that the "Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra of London" is a pseudonym for the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (probably for contractual reasons).

Before the DG Original Masters CD release, the set was issued on twofers (as far as I can see) on MCA, but those releases were notoriously sloppy (I have some Scherchen CDs on that label, also from the Westminster catalogue).

I'll certainly keep an eye out for this. IMHO, Leinsdorf had a way with Mozart (I recently revisited —and enjoyed— his Così fan tutte on RCA / Sony).

Before we went to the UK earlier this year we were watching Midsomer Murders and my girlfriend said "Wow, British people aren't very nice!"  ;D  ;D

But of course the only people worse than small town Brits in crime shows are American visitors in British crime shows!

By the way, I'm not familar with the label FY.  What can you tell me about it?

....

Sorry for the delayed reply, PD. I can't tell you much about that label (I think the on,y CD of theirs I own is the Lefébure I mentioned in my post). FY and Solstice are the same setup, though: https://www.solstice-music.com/en/home
