I think I might have accidentally did that and that is why it sounded so exceptionally clear yesterday.  I might measure and see tonight.

In fact, I used Cardas ideas on this for many years, worked for me.

This is my audio system, which gives me great pleasure, so I don't feel the need to upgrade for the foreseeable future. (I am considering adding a turntable back in my system at some point.)

Harbeth M40.3 XD speakers on Skylan stands
Modwright KWH 225i hybrid integrated amp ("hybrid" in this case means a tube preamp and SS power amp)
Marantz SA-10 SACD/CD player
HiFiMan HE1000 V2 headphones
Lehmannaudio Linear headphone amplifier

I'm the other way round with a SS pre and tube power. Not purist but if it sounds good who cares.

Is it an integrated amp or separate components? I don't think I've heard of an integrated with a SS preamp and tube power amp.

I've been out of the loop on espresso stuff, I watched a Youtube review of a Kafatek 98 mm flat burr grinder*, now I'm getting a bunch of these recommendations in my main feed and shorts. Espresso people have reached audiophile status for the amount of disdain they get in these video's comments!

lol  I do love a good cup of coffee, that said, I just use your basic Cuisinart one which has a number of settings from course to very fine.  It's held up well for me for probably about 15 years?  Kitchen space is currently at a premium--and I have (probably) way too many appliances/pots and pans/and toys.

Do you have one of those "fancy" Italian espresso machines?   :) Some friends of mine have one (a gift from one brother to the husband).  I was staying at their house overnight and the husband was quite vexed with his wife when she forgot and put regular tap water into it.

Anyway, I'm digressing.

My CD/DVD/SACD, etc. player is currently at the repair shot.  Hoping that it can be repaired as it's quite nice.  Fewer and fewer repair people to be found these days.  He showed me the stack of repair slips that he had (a lot--besides audio equipment, he also repairs televisions), so it will be probably several more weeks before he can even take a look at it and then get back to me with his diagnosis.

I have an Olympia Cremina, close enough to Italy  In my opinion Americans have taken over as the kings of espresso with what Slayer and Decent have done.

Hope the repair on your CD player was a simple fix and you'll be able to listen to music soon enough.

Oh, nice!  :)

And thank you.  At the moment, it's either listen in my kitchen (normally while cooking) on an inexpensive radio/CD player (which is handy to have) or on my Ye Olde Stereo System (upstairs) or via computer or haul out some vinyl to play on my Rega.

They also don't like cold brew coffee nor dark roasts!

The skew towards light roasts is a somewhat recent trend, I only drink light roasts these days but before this espresso tended to be roasted at least medium. We have such incredible extractions these days that I see no need to ever go beyond light when I'm getting a ton of complexity. And the richer notes you'd expect from darker roasts.

Some of the repair centers in the US are liquidating laser assemblies for disc players. If you like the sound of the player: https://www.ebay.com/itm/362336772972

I've replaced one in a 5400ES SACD player for a friend, I think it was only ~$40 on Ebay and doubled the life of it after it started having some issues recognizing hybrid SACDs.

Thanks for the link!  It might not be a bad idea to have a spare one on hand.  I copied down the information for my repair guy.  :)

My player was not wanting to open (as in when you push the open button, the tray doesn't pop out).  I was able to get it to open a couple of times (once by unplugging it and waiting a minute).  I also tried a few days later:  powered it up; the tray came out once but wouldn't do it on a repeat.  Not certain what's going on in there.   :(

Out of curiosity, did you need to solder anything or was it all about screws...or what?

There was no soldering for this player, alignment would have been an issue if it didn't read discs after replacement but it worked fine.

OK, this is not a headphone question but I couldn't find a general hi-fi thread (although I'm sure that one exists).
My amplifier (NAD) is packing up and keeps cutting out. If I thump the amplifier with my fist it works again...for a while. Obviously a loose connection somewhere. I can't afford a top-of-the-range system but am thinking of getting a Cambridge Audio Amp at about £400.00. My CD player is NAD and my speakers are Wharfedale Diamonds. I'm happy with the sound. Any comments please?

If your not willing to repair the NAD, a Cambridge amp is in the same range as what you have now, but sounds different, that's all. I think you will like this AMP Jeffrey! If possible try to upgrade your interlinks and loudspeaker cable, Try Blue Haven from Nordost, many are second hand available for very affordable prices. Your amp and speakers will benefit hugely.
