Superb disc Jeffrey. The whole series is a treasure trove of delights.
I've always had great respect for Paddington because he is amusingly English and a eccentric bear He is a great British institution and emits great wisdom with every growl. Of course I have Paddington at home, he is a member of the family, sure he is from the moment he was born. We have adopted him.

Carlo Tessarini, 1690-1766.

Complete Violin Concertos, 1-12, Opus 1.
Marco Pedrona, Violin.

Recorded 2010 at Centro Icaro, Aulla.

A novelty, the  Violin concertos by this much underrated composer. Although I am glad to hear this music, the quality of the playing is mediocre, as is the recording. To often the violin is out of tune, tempi are sluggish, and the virtuosic element in this music is nondescript. A missed chance!

One of the best disc so far I heard from Suzie LeBlanc. Her voice floats effortlessly, and she makes the most of the compositions. A near perfect disc. Sound is very good.

A complete work that was published posthumously. A satisfying work, generally classical in outlook with some beautiful turns of melody and harmony. Very fine performance.

What fine music there is to discover. I am smitten by the quality of this recording and performance. Cannot praise it enough. Actually it invites to play over and over again.

John Ward (1589–1638).
Consort Music for Five and Six Viols.

Laurence Dreyfus Treble viol and director, Wendy Gillespie Treble viol, Jonathan Manson Tenor viol, Mikko Perkola, Tenor viol, Emilia Benjamin tenor viol, Markku Luolajan-Mikkola bass viol.

Recorded at Wadham College Chapel, Oxford, UK 2009.

The English composer John Ward, was a contemporary of Gibbon, and was described in historical sources as a madrigalist. He committed himself to the Italian style. His music is full of lyrical melodies and of great charm, especially great charm. This SACD recording in SOTA sound is amazing, and the interpretation makes me discover the music by Ward anew. It is simply re-defined by this ensemble. It carries a authority that is utterly convincing in all aspects of this production. Warmly recommended.

Poulenc: Harpsichord Concerto. Zuzana Růžičková, Czech Philharmonic Orchestra.
The old-style playing sounds cute and hip. The recording sound is unbelievably good, especially for a communist country in the 1960s. I wonder if the engineers at Supraphon were trained in the West.

A simple explanation for excellence of sound of Supraphon issues from the period compared with other labels in the communist bloc. Suprathon were extremely fortunate in taking delivery of state of art recording equipment from Fairchild USA on the cusp of the Iron Curtain and resulting cold war period when imports from the West were banned.

Yes, it's good. While we talk about Byrd: Brilliant is going to release a complete Byrd keyboard set (9 CDs) with Peter-Jan Belder within short time.

Atterberg: Symphony 5 'Sinfonia Funebre' (1922)
Atterberg apparently didn't like this work much but it is my favourite and has some wonderfully doom-laden and moving sections. I also like symphonies 2,3 and the slow movement of No.8.
This is the best performance on disc (Stockholm PO/Westerberg)
