Brigg Fair

Marche Caprice
Royal PO - Sir Thomas Beecham

I wish I had started listening to Delius through Beecham. He handles Delius different than most, I think, and it really does his music wonders.

I still am not fond of Brigg Fair for some reason. Perhaps it is the mostly static dreaminess which becomes too much for me. The same might be said of some of these other works, but I enjoy Delius' simple ways with melody in this music.

Quote from: Papy Oli on April 13, 2024, 06:31:14 AMThank you @premont I did bookmark a couple of copies on Ebay for reference at the time of your last mention of this version.

With Foccroulle & Beekman already on the go and also Fagius in the listening pile, Stockmeier will be for a bit later I think  (not to mention the Alain French organ works box too!!).

Foccroulle is excellent.  My only objection was my pet peeve of gluing the sleeves!  I think he has also recorded Buxtehude and Frescobaldi... and I want to get around to those sets someday.

The more I listen to the same piece in different performances, the less familiar that piece seems to me. In each new version, consequently, I can hear more details, sometimes unexpected ones.

Oh, yes, I know --- happens to me with Mozart's music.  8)

What attracts me in Allan Pettersson's symphonies is most clearly and one-pointedly expressed in the 9th.

Yeah. Pettersson on Saturday evening while I do some work. Good call.

Foccroulle has made several Baroque organ music recordings. I would particularly mention his Buxtehude, Arauxo and Weckmann - and Bach of course. As to the Frescobaldi, I own it, but haven't listened enough to it yet.

Perhaps the best recording yet, though I'll have to revisit some of the older recordings.

I'm not sure if this live recording is the same:
