Oops.  Fortunately, the disc cover image is glowing on the monitor, so I'm sort of watching it, too.

On BBC iPlayer (streaming) :

Keaton is very good in this.  Only the occasional flashback to Beetlejuice in the intonation. :D

John Barrowman, Burn Gorman

A spin-off from the Doctor Who reboot featuring Captain Jack Harkness in a sort-of special ops, alien procedural. Season 1 was dark and sleazy; quite unlikable. I plowed through and Season 2 course-corrected for the better.

Another dozen or more episodes in Seasons 3 & 4 to come.

I thought season 3 - the 5-episode "Children Of Earth" story - was the best in every way. I've rewatched that a couple of times since.

Patrick McGoohan turned down the role of unscrupulous womanizer James Bond. In the first two episodes of The Prisoner, Number Six's gallant impulses leave him vulnerable to deceitful women, although in both cases the deception is a matter of leading him to believe that he can escape from the Village.

The Bear on Hulu - started the first season last night - not thrilled at first but now really enjoying - has been renewed for a 4th season; winner of numerous awards as described below. Ratings are outstanding, e.g. 99%, Rotten Tomatoes and 8.6/10, IMDB.  Dave :)

QuoteThe Bear is an American comedy-drama television series created by Christopher Storer for FX on Hulu. Jeremy Allen White stars as Carmy Berzatto, an award-winning chef who returns to his hometown of Chicago to manage the chaotic kitchen at his deceased brother's sandwich shop. The series has received critical acclaim, particularly for its writing, directing, acting, and production values. The first season received ten Primetime Emmy Awards including Outstanding Comedy Series and acting wins for White, Moss-Bachrach, and Edebiri. The Bear has also won four Golden Globe Awards, with acting wins for White and Edebiri and the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy in 2024. (Source)

Ay, I just caught the first two episodes of Season 3 last night. The series is suddenly ramped up into a high-energy conspiracy thriller, leaving any of its earlier problems in the dust.

Dinner with the Parents.  The latest Freevee original, it follows the misadventures of an upper middle class Jewish family (an important plot device) living in a nice suburb within driving distance of Lake Erie.  The plotlines are daffy AF, the name of the show refers to the shenanigans of the first episode only, and there's no real connecting plot.  It's an old-style, episode-to-episode sitcom.  The reason I decided to watch and will watch the last couple episodes when they become available, and why I hope there is another season, is because of the talent.  Michaela Watkins is wonderfully real.  Dan Bakkedahl – aka, Congressman Furlong from Veep – does his shtick.  And Rob Delaney, from the absolutely fantastic series Catastrophe, one of the best yet Amazon original shows, brings the yucks.  Old hand Carol Kane knows her stuff, too.  It's silly, frivolous, and a wonderful time waster.

That sounds like the UK sitcom Friday Night Dinner, about an upper middle class Jewish family who all gather for the titular meal each week and have wacky, slapsticky disputes. Also very silly, also funny, also unburdened by today's obsession with character development arc. I think it's still on Prime.

Oh, I see from Wiki that the new show is indeed an American remake - and that the original American remake pilot episode starred Tony Shalhoub and Allison Janney.

"Angry cupcake" (!!!)

One of my most favorite shows ever!  In the 1960's, with Little Marxist and even Stalinist apologists running around proclaiming that freedom was a problem, Patrick McGoohan's response with The Prisoner was most necessary!

I do not need to wonder what his response would be to the present surveillance state, with e.g. just like in The Village, cameras everywhere and massive computers programmed to follow our cellphones and activities!

Patrick McGoohan apparently rejected the Bond character on moral grounds: he was only married to one woman (57 years), unlike too many connected to Hollywood.

His performance in Dr. Syn, Alias The Scarecrow (a.k.a. The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh) is akin to his portrayal of Number Six.

The plot deals with a local rebellion in England against King George III and "press gangs" roaming the countryside to supply sailors for the navy.

It was shown in 3 parts on American television via Walt Disney's Sunday program.

Very interesting, especially from the Disney studios! I borrowed the DVD from the Minuteman Library Network.

Yes, check out The Hitch-Hiker, with Edmund O'Brien and Frank Lovejoy!

She also handled the comedy The Trouble with Angels, with Rosalind Russell and Hayley Mills.

Watching The Roast of Tom Brady live on Netflix. As always, Nikki Glaser killed!

And Tony Hinchcliffe was so funny that after his set the host, Kevin Hart, literally couldn't talk for like 10 seconds.
