Knowing the Erato and EMI catalogue, that could be very promising...

It'll be interesting to see how much overlap there will be between this set and this upcoming one:

This newer set looks nice, but I'm probably at least 99% sure I'll already own most of the performances in that set. Also, I don't think Collard's performances of the solo piano music are that great and if they use his cycle instead of opting for another in their catalog, then I definitely wouldn't consider purchasing it.

Good point.

Particularly since they could pick the cycle by either Jean Hubeau or Jean Doyen instead... How difficult can it be? Or are they, as usual, obsessed by the recording age and sound quality?  ::)

I don't think there is any great distinction between the sound quality of Collard, Jean Doyen or Hubeau. It would make sense to use Doyen, since it has been out of the catalog for so long, but I enjoy Collard's recordings of this music just as well. In any case, I'm probably not in the market for this set because it is doubtful they could find anything in their catalog that I don't already have. :)

I don't know Hubeau's or Doyen's Fauré recordings, but I'd imagine their recordings aren't dismal sounding and certainly worthy of inclusion in the set instead of Collard (whose cycle is in no need of reissuing).

Like @Spotted Horses pointed out, I already own most of the performances in this upcoming set or, at least, this is my suspicion.

JBS

I'm in the same situation. I have that 12 CD set, plus the chamber music set with the Capucons and friends, plus the Dutoit Penelope, which will be there almost by default.
The only major segment I lack is the songs.

They might use more of their imagination than usual and put in Heidseick's recording of the Nocturnes...but I have that too.
[And it's available as an independent CD for those that don't have it.]

Eventually they should release a fancy box set of All The Stuff That Wasn't Already In Another Box Set. Across all composers, eras, genres...just everything they didn't stick into a box already. Stuck into a box. ;D

That would be one gargantuan set! :D

I love that they used all of those Alphonse Mucha artworks.  A wonderful Czech artist!

Who is the conductor of the Bruckner box set? Or will it be a selection of various conductors?

@ritter beat me to it. This set is one of those multi-conductor sets. I wish DG would reissue Barenboim's first cycle. It was available for like 30 seconds and then it was gone.

Indeed, but as a matter of fact, it would have been a bit strange if it had been a totally new box set since the Wiener Philharmoniker released a new Bruckner Symphony Cycle just some months ago.
Pity there are no historical recordings (I mean, older than a 1970s recording), glad to see they have included Karajan's Bruckner 7th at least.

I'd have thought that HvKs 8th would have been included instead of the 7th and that the Jochum 4 would have been a better choice than the Bohm which while it is very good I (and others) feel the Jochum is better. No complaints about the wonderful Giulini 9th which sits very happily alongside my Bruno Walter. Two different takes of a great work.
Cheers

A modern reconstruction of an 18th century organ by Heinrich Andreas Contius, in Latvia. Sounds nice.
