[Re Manacorda Beethoven]
That was the first CD of the set I played. Liked what I heard, but nothing really made it stand out from anyone else.

Awesome composition by Nikolai Obukhov: another descendant of Scriabin's mystico-musical universe!

The First Symphony usually bores me. It's not boring me this morning. The last conductor not to bore me in the First was Trevino.

Attractive miniatures. I particularly liked the sixth, Serein, bien allant.

One day this music sounds interesting, another day it doesn't. Today is the latter. It seems I wasn't wrong when claimed that this composer is awfully overrated.

I often feel the same. There are days when symphonies such as 8, 10, 6 really hit the nark - but more days when Brian doesn't seem to meet any of my hopes. Possibly just me. Probably more to do with me than anything else, but he still stands behind many other recent and contemporary British composers.

Not that Brahms doesn't merit this (he does) but this appears to be news to me!

Is it safe to say that I do not have those problems with Brian at all, in fact no problems at all.
Ducks for cover. :o

Because you love him or because you don't?

Absolutely brilliant. Two microphones. Two tape tracks. Modern ADC and DAW.
This could be my favorite purchase in years.

So glad you liked this - I must admit even with my far from "high end" equipment I thought the fidleity of the recording was extraordinary given its over 50 years old,,,,

Wow 17 long discs of Reger Organ Music - that is devotion to duty!  The one piece of Reger's organ music I have in my collection is "Variations and Fugue on "Heil Dir Im Siegerkranz" (God Save the King)".....
