Fair enough.  For something truly unimportant, Richard Simmons died.  That does it for me: I'm swearing off diet and exercise.  I have many family members who never bothered with either and who lived longer.

R.I.P. Richard Simmons. I look forward to reading Esquire's and GC's obituaries. He was one of the best-dressed men of the 20th century, after all, with an atemporal sense of style...

Hot shot actor Alec Baldwin dodges a bullet.

Couldn't care less about Alec Baldwin, but the judge did the right thing. That case was no more than an attention grab by the State's Attorney. There was no grounds for a criminal trial. If it had been you or me, there wouldn't have been a word said.

Absolutely.  However, since a woman died in an entirely preventable accident, there absolutely were grounds for a criminal trial.  The evidence for that is the conviction of the armorer.  Baldwin should have been charged with a lesser crime - reckless endangerment, perhaps.  The prosecutor got too ambitious and sloppy. I'd say that Baldwin's name is mud and that his career is over, but if one looks at John Landis, that may not be true.  Hollywood is entirely immoral and all about the moolah.  Thankfully.

Certainly prosecutorial overzealousness. First he would be charged, then not charged, then charged again. The FBI lab broke the gun while testing it, then they announce it couldn't have fired if the trigger wasn't pulled (which they figure out after they broke it). How can they know what can't happen? And what difference does it make? Baldwin was handed a prop which was declared harmless by the people responsible, and he could very well have inadvertently pulled the trigger while drawing it, even if he had no intention of doing so.

But, as I read somewhere, now the civil suits start. The responsibility is primarily with the armorer, but the producers tolerated a disregard of safety on set, and guess who was a producer? Baldwin. It isn't over.

Dry Brett Kavanaugh

Nigel Farage and Liz Truss are among the UK politicians set to attend the US Republican national convention. Thick skin.

And Kate Hudson doesn't wear deodorant either? Next movie I watch I'm going to be imagining that all the actors stink like a rugby player fresh out of the scrum.

She mentioned some sort of salt...perhaps that works for her?

It is not as crazy as you make it sound. You can buy salt-based deodorant in shops specializing in natural products. Bacteria need a hospitable medium in order to grow, and the wrong kind of salt or the wrong concentration will inhibit growth.

This is reminding me of summer 2011, when I started hiking the Camino de Santiago in Spain with a girl I knew. We started out on the morning of day 1 of our 75-mile route and she said, "By the way, I'm trying a new all-organic deodorant. I hope it works!" (We walked so long each day that I never noticed  ;D )

Hopefully, he wears clothing emblazoned with the logos of the brands he endorses.

In other Olympics news, Salt Lake City won an uncontested bid to host the 2034 Winter Olympics.

One of the issues coming up at the Paris Olympics:  "Not an oeuf: Athletes report eggs shortage in Olympic village"

Not just eggs, but apparently meat too.  Interesting to read about how they are trying to make things more environmentally sustainable there.

p.s.  Sorry, but that photo of an egg is overcooked.  By my standards anyway.  ;)
