I am really enjoying this series. At times it reminds me of Miami Vice, at other times Better Call Saul and in other ways it reminds me of Mr. Inbetween. I have two episodes left.

Refn is good and interesting in almost everything he does. I liked this series a lot too.

A nice mix of goofiness and action, set at Christmas.

Aziz Ansari attended the school I teach at (I didn't teach him; I wasn't there yet, but my colleagues did).

The burger contest is my favorite episode (which you are quite away from getting to).

The YouTube algorithm, no doubt aided by the most powerful AI the world has yet seen, has started adding videos from The Onion to my suggested viewing queue.  Much to my surprise, The Onion still makes videos. This older one really tickled my fancy:

I started watching Presumed Innocent based on the novel by the same name.

I finished S1 of the X-Files. There were lots of hits and lots of misses. Except for the last episode, the main arc episodes were most of the misses.

The standout was the episode where a serial killer on death row promises to use his psychic powers to help Scully if he is granted a stay on his execution.

Posted above at the end of last month AND we are now on Season 5 (Total of 10) - forgot how much we liked this now OLD TV series - BUT, I must say that on my 50" 4K HDTV the episodes look great despite their age and the image fills the screen - recommended if you like the concept.  Dave :)

I read the book ages ago and also watched the movie.  It's interesting that they've made a t.v. series of it [after all these years].  Are you familiar with either or both of those David?  I'll be interested in hearing how you find the series to be.

 Very funny!  One particular moment:  torching the carrots.  ;D

Made me think also of those cooking shows which makes it look like one can make their meal easily in under an hour (normally suggesting way less time needed); however, they don't include prepping time--and most of us aren't the fastest of choppers and also don't have various assistants in another kitchen to prep the majority of it for us.

I'm also annoyed when a recipe says prep time 5 minutes but includes chopping and dicing several vegetables. :P

Tangentially, last night I watched the second episode of The Dick van Dyke Show on which Greg Morris (Barney on Mr Phelps' IMF team) is a guest.

House of the Dragon.  Since I signed up for HBO again – it'll be a cold day in hell before I refer to it as Max or recognize the state of Missouri – I decided to give this show a shot.  I made it through part of episode six, after having to split each episode into multiple viewing sessions.  It sucks.  The acting sucks.  The story bores.  Not one character stands out.  Matt Smith is the only one who appears to even try.  Per press reports, the show has a larger budget than GoT, but it doesn't show up on screen.  In fact, the extra dough hinders rather than helps.  So much CGI is used everywhere, all the time, in every scene, that it looks like a punched up Elder Scrolls.  Some of the interiors are not up to snuff, with some perspective errors cropping up in places.  I guess the dragons look better.  Maybe.  On the plus side, this is nowhere near as bad as seasons three and four of Westworld, but then, those shows have been categorized as torture by the UN Human Rights Council.

Despite that your technical criticism are mostly valid, I still enjoyed Season 2. The plot has its few non sequitur moments too such as when Prince Daemon (Matt Smith) at the last moment puts aside his personal ambitions to fully dedicate himself the service of his wife & queen, Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy).  Or queen dowager, Alicent (Olivia Cooke) has her unpredictable, apparent reformation.

The dragon are fabulous, no maybe about that.

I don't watch much TV, and virtually never rewatch. However, I binge (re)watched Queen's Gambit over two evenings, with great pleasure.
It's all good...
