Not so ugly apart from the gray background, but who had the brilliant idea to photograph a streetwalker?

It's a pretty good album apart from the track with George Adams singing.

Quote from: Madiel on August 20, 2024, 08:57:25 PMNobody did. For one thing it doesn't say Brain Homage, it says Dennis Brain Homage. Or it just says Brain. There's nothing in the typeface suggesting that only 2 words are important instead of 3. It's all you.

Of course it's all me, but if I've learned one thing it's that I've never had an original idea in my life, so if it occurred to me it has occurred to other people. If you're a contestant on Wheel of Fortune, what are you guessing?

At first glance, the mind looking for familiar patterns sees "brain damage" before resolving to "brain homage." OK, I admit the pun probably wasn't intentional, but it could have been easily avoided by titling it "Homage to Dennis Brain" or "Dennis Brain Tribute".

But it hasn't occurred to other people. This thread is proving that.

This thread proves that it hasn't occurred to three people. That's a small sample.

It's a bigger sample than 1 person that it did occur to.

Quote from: 71 dB on August 13, 2024, 10:41:25 AMFrankly that's the least of the problems for me. I find that ugly cover art and I don't like how Marc Soustrot is poking with the baton like trying to give a lobotomy to someone!  :(
Or a particularly nasty prostate exam!

As far as I can see, the album was released on the Italian label Soul Note. Most likely, the photograph was taken in Europe by an Italian photographer. Obviously, women in 1970s Italy dressed differently than in America. So, I'm not sure your guess is correct 8)

Streetwalker is the last thing in the world I can think about when looking at it.

Hmmm, I see a transvestite not used to walk on high heels. If not , I see a figure in a very unelegant pose in an unflattering dress.
Still, compared to the really ugly silly Marc Soustrot photo.....

"Candid" photographs rarely make good CD covers:

I mean, that's beyond untrained. You have to specifically intend to make that kind of mess of the information. If that's a recent release I'm almost inclined to write to the company to ask how they could allow someone to so deliberately make the cover difficult to read. I wouldn't have picked Pentatone for doing something like this.

Edit: It was in 2012. But seriously I hope there was some kind of consequence. That should never have been allowed into production.

Graphic Designer 1: "Hey, Photoshop has a 'Blur' feature. Should I use it on the cover?"

Graphic Designer 2: "Yeah!"

Graphic Designer 1: "Will it look OK?"

Graphic Designer 2: "Yeah!"

Graphic Designer 1: "Are you sure?"

Graphic Designer 2: "Yeah!"

Two graphic designers would never agree on anything.

The blurring is not the problem. The blurred images are easier to visually process than anything else.
