Quote from: Symphonic Addict on September 18, 2024, 07:19:20 PMThat work was performed in a concert I attended recently. An exhilarating piece. I was so taken by it that I applauded where the work has this sort of 'false ending' (at 10:39 mark in the video), thinking that it was the real ending!

Whereupon up in the Heaven Enescu told Haydn: I owe it to you, dear Papa! and Haydn humbly smiled and winked: You put it to excellent use, child!
"Ja, sehr komisch, hahaha,
ist die Sache, hahaha,
drum verzeihn Sie, hahaha,

Normally a recording with Spanish repertoire wouldn't be my obvious pick for this ensemble. But it is nicely done though not very idiomatic.

I have heard lost of excellent performances (and the one above is outstanding) but in terms of sheer exhilaration none of them can top this one:

It must be seen (as opposed to merely listened to) to be believed.

I picked this out of curiosity. 1st surprise is a mix of clavichord and harpsichord, 2nd surprise is that I enjoy this more than expected after some previous crazy over-the-top Bach by Esfahani.

Tippett: Ritual Dances from The Midsummer Marriage.

David Atherton conducting BBC National Orchestra of Wales.

After Elgar and RVW in more restrained mode Tippett smashes it.
You must have a very good opinion of yourself to write a symphony - John Ireland.

I opened the door people rushed through and I was left holding the knob - Bo Diddley.

Mozart

Violin sonata no.23 in D major, K.306/300l (written in Paris, 1778)
Piano sonata no.13 in B flat major, K.333/315c (not written then despite what K numbers had us believing for a century just because it wasn't written in Vienna. Probably Linz, 1783)

Every single post on the forum is unnecessary. Including the ones that are interesting or useful.

Ha! I love that (and bet that at least a few of those onstage found your enthusiasm charming). It is exhilarating — a real showpiece. Envious that you heard it live, since at least in the U.S., it doesn't seem to show up on concerts that often.

And thank you for that! A treasure, this time for the shots of him, rather than the orchestra. At times he's conducting with his hips, or his eyebrows, and in general having a great time. (Though it does look like great fun to play, a look at the score shows that it's also quite difficult.) The reaction of the audience is great: they don't even wait for the end to die down before breaking into cheers.

Also, I loved the glimpses of the hall, seen in color in this excellent (though with a single camera angle) performance with Vlad Vizireanu, with the lovely murals.

Anyway, thanks again, might have missed this one.

Just such a touching photo on the cover - affection and pride. Fun, agreeable, cheerful, celebratory, light interpretation of the Mozart  -304.
