The house was built in 1910 by someone called John Innes - I don't know if you are aware of him in the US but he's famous here for a sort of compost which he invented. After making his fortune with compost he went into business with an architect called Henry Quartermain to design and build property.

I am the second owner. It was bought off plan by a chap who left it to his two daughters, and they continued to live in it until 2000, when finally the one surviving lady had to move into a nursing home. Architecturally, it is completely untouched - every little carving and moulding from 1910 remains.
No, I hadn't heard of him before now.  Trust that you upgraded the heating system?   :)

Preserve me from the Shape of Things to Be;

    The high-grade posters at the public meeting,

The influence of Art on Industry,

    The cinemas with perfect taste in seating;

    Preserve me, above all, from central heating.

It may be D. H. Lawrence hocus-pocus,

But I prefer a room that's got a focus.

Just bought a rug - the biggie. Before it was hard floors. What a difference to the sound - a serious audio upgrade.

Seems to be a beautiful rug, congrats. :)  The floor speakers look impressive too.

The only thing you miss in this nice arrangement is IMO some comfortable armchairs.

Reality trumps our fantasy far beyond imagination.

I'd love to get one of those Danish Stressless chairs.

I had one for several years but eventually got rid of it. The issue was that it made me fall asleep too easily while sitting and listening to music. I could estimate the duration of my sleep by adding the segments of the music I missed in my mind. :)

Hans Wegner Shell Chair -- I know it looks like an instrument of torture but in fact, it is the most comfortable chair I know.

Oh yes, that's right. I have never considered that chair because it looks uncomfortable.

Yes, it's fun to watch people's faces when they come for the first time and you say "take a seat!"

We own a number of Wegner Y-chairs. They aren't especially comfortable, but they were my wife's choice. We use them exclusively for dining.

The only possible negative thing I could see would be the fact that you're always in a reclined position...that and maybe getting up?  They are very cool looking though!

Minor correction: Stressless is Norwegian.
Lovely room, @prémont.
I love music. Sadly, I'm an audiophile too.

Oops!  Pardon me!  Bad memory on my part!   :-[   I do love their chairs, sofas, etc. though.

I must admit that I think they look bad.

I've just swapped a rather cool  looking but for Mahler length listening uncomfortable 1950s rocking chair for a low back IKEA Vedbo.

Agreed, my decision to part with my Stressless chair was influenced by my wife's opinion that it detracted from the room's aesthetic.

So, there is a connection between furniture and the way you listen to music, after all...  ;D

Quote from: Harry on October 18, 2024, 07:11:20 AMWell that's unusual for the build quality of Rotel equipment. The laser must be out of synch.

I thought I read on this site somewhere that there are only one or two manufacturers left in the world that make a CD transport. It seemed like a plausible claim. So presumably you are getting the same transport whether you spend $50 or $5000 dollars on an optical disc player.

Quote from: DavidW on October 12, 2024, 03:34:48 PMAnd I could not avoid temptation, so I ordered the Kef R11 towers. I used financing. But yeah. I hope that I love them, and I think and hope they will also be my end game.

My first impulse is to feel a bit jealous. It reminds me of the time when I still was an aspirational audiophile, and hoped to someday have a perfect listening room with top quality equipment. Never got there. The closest approach was a pair of Polk Audio LSi9 speakers with a Marantz Integrated Amp and SACD player. But I remember endlessly fussing over it.

Now my setup is a MacBook and AirPods Max (streaming from Apple Music of FLAC file on my hard disk) and I seem to enjoy music more. If I want get really fancy I use my Schiit audio DAC and Headphone Amp with Beyerdynamic T1 or Shure SRH1540 headphones, but even that seems like an unnecessary refinement.
