Watched episode 2 of this today, Dark Worlds, which looks at the least explored regions of the solar system, between and beyond the planets. Absolutely fascinating and jaw-dropping documentary making, Brian Cox is a treasure. It culminates in a breathtaking theoretical theory about the Oort Cloud, demonstrated brilliantly in BC's typically vivid fashion.

Anyone else here watching World at War on PBS (or elsewhere).  Trying hard to keep up but am missing some of the episodes?   It's about WWII.

One of the truly great first seasons ever (NCIS: Hawaii). Included actual character growth, actual team building, actual romance - including all the awkward, silly bits. Locales are also sumptuous.

I cannot stress how much I love that it includes actual team building. It took the entire season for them to truly get on the same page - a very real-feeling show, despite the storylines, lol. 8)

It must be such a beautiful locale in which to work/shoot.  Will keep an eye out for this series.

Sadly, it got cancelled after 3 seasons,  as it cost too much, unsurprisingly.

Hawaii 5-0:TNG lasted 10 seasons, so an NCIS show should have done as well. But maybe people were a bit bored of Hawaii after 13 years. (Hawaii 5-0 ended in 2020. NCIS:H started in 2021.)

Never seen the other show, so I cannot comment, but NCIS was quite expensive, and none of its spinoffs, in my opinion, have done all that well. I think the only successful one was LA, and that one, in my opinon, feels terribly cheap (cannot stand the cast).

I've only seen bits and pieces of any NCIS: I'm not keen on the genre. The last one I watched regularlly was Miami Vice, and that was mostly because I live in South Florida.
I can't tell you anything about Hawaii 5.0  because I watched too much of Hawaii Five-Oh when it was first aired, back when I wore a much younger man's clothes. (It started when I was in 5th Grade and ended the year I graduated college. So it was really when I wore a boy's clothes.)

Completely understand not getting into NCIS, and I think Hawaii is very difficult to get into because it is very realistic in its presentation of its characters, which I like, but it also means that you have to grow with them, so in like the first episode, out of the main cast, only 1 of them is really likeable.

Ah, I'll have to YouTube it, see both the old and the new - should be an interesting contrast.

I recall Miami Vice, but know it better through Rockstar Games's eyes ... 8)

I've rewatched Rose Red which I haven't seen in twenty years or more. This miniseries holds up. Stephen King borrowed heavily from Matheson, but it works.

A psychology professor hires psychics to spend three days in the mansion hoping to gather evidence of the paranormal so that people will stop seeing her as a kook. Things go awry...

Loved Rose Red, a great King cameo as well.

Just finished the first 3 episodes of Homeland. I love the male lead (Brody) and his family. The overarching plot device (pow sleeper) is excellent, and all 3 episodes were full of suspense and tension. I was on the edge of my seat.

O.M.G. is the female lead (Danes) is annoying. She actually reminds me of Bishop on NCIS - a gnat with a savior complex. I suspect I will not make it through the entire season because of her.

The first half a dozen or so eps of Charlie's Angels season 5 back in the day had the Angels moving to Hawaii briefly before coming back to L.A. - I am guessing it was expensive.  :-[

I imagine so.  Magnum P.I. was fun to watch back in the day.

Ouch!  Fan interference (W.S.)...urgh!

Just finished Homeland Season 1.

All in all, Brody was great all season long (his family diminishes in quality as the season progressed).

Danes was so bad that I will simply be looking up plot points, as I cannot suffer her any longer.

It also has a flaccid ending, but that seems to be the norm for Hollywood.

The show was all buildup and no payoff.

I wouldn't recommend this show to anyone. Just YouTube Brody clips, if need be.

Just looked up those plot points - man, did the show fall off considerably after the first season, so much intrigue and promise - what a disappointment.

It's a pity that the Homeland series couldn't meet your high standards. In my naïveté, I watched all the seasons with considerable interest and enjoyment :)

I think that only works if you take it as fantasy (which I suppose is true of most series dealing with politics, e.g. The West Wing).  I think I may have made it a few episodes into season 2 before my ability to suspend disbelief collapsed completely.

How can this be perceived as anything other than fantasy? After all, it's not scientific research or documentary. But then again, where's the guarantee that so-called scientific research and documentaries aren't fantasies as well?
