Black Doves, Silo, Bosch, Inside the Number Nine, and House. All are very different from each other but excellent in their own ways.

I've just started watching, so it's too early to draw any conclusions. I can definitely say that, so far, the adaptation of the famous book does not disappoint.

I know it likely isn't practical, but I wish Law & Order had a way to buy seasons by detective because I'd be all over that deal - I'd get the Megan Wheeler set first.

(Despite the image, the series is on the BBC iPlayer)

This is excellent tv. It tells an extraordinary story really well, and keeps you sitting on the edge of your seat throughout - and this from somebody who lost most of the small amount of interest he had in it, with the death of Ayrton Senna in 1994 (except for the Monaco Grand Prix which is special).
The importance of the story's ramifications to so many came as a bit of a surprise, and the revelations of the emotional highs and lows of some of the main players (including many unforgettable characters) was really eye-opening and gave me a far greater appreciation for the intense pressures, huge dedication/commitment and dangers involved in achieving even the tiniest steps forward, at these almost absurd levels of technical excellence.
At the end of the day it is of course just another money-spinning business with a glamorous face, but with this absolutely jaw-dropping/unbelievable tale of the Brawn team, for the first time I felt genuinely moved by its aspirations. Highly recommended.

Number Six

I watched the 6-part The Plot Against America, based on Philip Roth's alternative history suggesting fascist Charles Lindbergh was elected in 1940 as President.

I thought it was terrific. But the last 30 minutes, I did not care for. It felt like an unsatisfying ending, given the storyline. Not saying it was happy or sad - don't want to spoil it - but I was not pleased with the story conclusion. It might be the same in Roth's novel. I don't know.

I kind of lost interest a few eps into s02 of SILO, but I thought season 1 was superb.

Currently rewatching Law & Order: Criminal Intent Season 2.

Quote from: hopefullytrusting on December 17, 2024, 08:28:33 PMNeed to clear my mind, so I'm watching something light, something formulaic, something that I love: Murder She Wrote (I got this set for a steal).

Might have run into the brick wall of distastefulness regarding Murder, She Wrote.

First, her insipid view on justice is puerile, at best, so that is wearing thin, and now a horrendously racist episode - Indian Giver, yes, that's the actual title of the episode, and Jessica's behavior was beyond pathetic.

Yep, I'm done with the show. God, the ending was so insulting, reminds me of how Law & Order deals with race save with no "country bumpkins."

It was nice while it lasted.

Looking it up (there aren't many MSW episodes I've seen), it was aired in 1987, which means the whole introductory sequence was cringe inducing even when it first aired.

We finished watching it. Truly, an excellent series. The performances by the Colombian (?) actors were outstanding, and the scenes were magnificent. The creators of the show managed to incorporate the incredibly rich and original content of Gabriel García Márquez's book into the leisurely-paced narrative—or at least a significant part of it. Some storylines were left out, so perhaps a continuation awaits us?

Exactly, it had no excuse, and it gets way worse than that opening sequence.

Also, doesn't help that the "indian" was played by an "INDIAn" (I knew the actor from the Matrix films).

Eh, no big loss. Onto, the next series. I'm wanting something like, so next up is: She Spies:

I thought the same, but a few of the newer episodes were quite a bit better, especially ep.7.

The original Frasier was one of my favorite shows, but the reboot is appallingly bad. (Writing, acting, you name it.) I gave up after two episodes.

Well, cured myself of Land & Order: Criminal Intent - case inspired by the real-life death of Till.

To call this episode enraging, especially with the sanctimonious, pathetic moralizing of the two white leads to corral the righteous indignation of the black lead is about as disgusting as it comes.

Man, so much television is absolute trash when it comes to addressing issues of race.

I watched Fallout a few weeks back. It was so funny. I think I want to play some more Fallout, maybe New Vegas.

Besides that Slow Horses, X-Files, and the usual British mysteries.

Been working through this, now starting the final season:

Good to know! I still have my active Apple TV+, so I will give it a look.
