Quote from: DavidW on January 25, 2025, 06:22:02 AMNo that was specific to PD/K at the time. But that does not even address the fact that you can change your handle to be different from your username. I created this new account to leave being a moderator back when the forum was still bugged. I made this account DavidW2, and then immediately changed the handle to DavidW (which is what you see).

But now, just like for most of the history, I believe you can use the same username again. That was a temporary bug.

There is nothing stopping John from changing his handle that we see to "Mirror Image." And I think everyone would appreciate that.

Being a moderator would be too complicated for me 🙂

Nowadays it is, but nobody would want a shabby bear like me. ;D  ;D  ;D
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

Quote from: Spotted Horses on January 25, 2025, 08:57:32 AMI've used a few usernames over the last decade, but I've kept the same avatar picture.

In all the time since, I could never stop myself thinking of you as Scarpia, even when I learned your real name. Or rather, 'Scarps' actually.

Yes, and I still remember the original Scarpia avatar.

Never changed the avatar.

...do any of you even REMEMBER the other name? It's been years now.  >:D

PS As for writing the old name somewhere to tell people, I couldn't anyway because I had that weird bug where I couldn't edit my signature for years and years. But the stable avatar seemed clear enough. Nobody reported me as missing.

PPS Also it states my location and I don't think I was ever confused for the other 2 known Canberrans. Nobody was going to think I was that dungeon master bloke for starters.

Hats off, if this is true!

The lyre on Madiel's avatar seems to indicate that you are right.

Lies! You can't prove it! I'm, I'm...

Yeah that's me.

Shouldn't have kept the damn glowing lyre.

I found out by going through the early Holmboe posts. I knew I find my answer there, because I couldn't remember it off the top of my head.

Very clever use of resources there.

No, no!!!

It was Ørfeø, wasn't it?

There was a brief period where at least one of the o became an ø yes, and maybe it was both of them.

Which is a horrible misspelling of course. As a person who's learned Danish, the habit of some advertisers who put a slash through an o to evoke being Scandinavian is something I regard as an awful habit. I don't remember what "inspired" me to do it here, but I do remember I couldn't live with it for very long.

One of the shoe brands I sell at work does that. It's an American company and at no point is Scandinavia involved in making any of its shoes.download.jpg

Häagen-Dazs. And no one even remembers Frusen Glädjé now. Hysterical that "Häagen-Dazs sued unsuccessfully in 1980 to stop Frusen Glädjé from using a "Scandinavian marketing theme". Häagen-Dazs's complaints included Frusen Glädjé's "prominently displayed list of the product's natural ingredients, a list of artificial ingredients not found in the ice cream, directions for serving and eating the ice cream (essentially that it was best served soft), and a map of Scandinavia". The court ruled against Häagen-Dazs on the grounds of unclean hands, as Häagen-Dazs had similarly marketed itself as Scandinavian (specifically Danish) without having any real connection to the region."

Specifically Danish?!? With an ä?

That alone makes me want to avoid their ice cream. If you're going to be inauthentic you could at least try to get it right. In Danish they use æ.
